Count the days people.

I've said it over and over again for the longest time. It scares me the potential damage to property and life these perpetual self-fuelling, poisonous, explosive devises, have when parked in a multi-storey carpark without proper prevention.

One car; "A total of 177 emergency responders and 80 pieces of equipment were deployed to the scene. Local media reported that it took 8 hours to extinguish the fire."

Does SG even have 80pcs of equipment to deploy? I suppose it does but doesn't leave much spare when it takes so long to control these fire types.

I wonder what is SCDF,NEA & LTA's Respond.?

Frankly, SCDF kena backstabbed by LTA la. How you want SCDF to respond? EV fires are not controllable at all.

Not yet. A panel of experts headed by Transport Minister has to be formed first before the meetings.

think need to sell in 4-5 yrs, unless forke out huge amt to replace the batt....maybe at that time the batt cost is more than the residue car value..:veryangry:

If you drive more than 250k km over 10 years, range might reduce by 20%.

There are a lot of Tesla with NMC battery in USA that goes beyond 250k km without major degradation.

Any Non LFP battery should be banned from being used in passenger vehicles. Now that technologically becoming more wide spread.

Large NMC batteries are just too dangerous in an enclosed space.

A single EV Fire requires 4 or 5 times the amount of water to put out comparatively.

A Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan exploded in a South Korean apartment complex parking lot, igniting a massive fire. The toxic fumes sent 21 people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and damaged 70 other vehicles.

The incident occurred in Incheon, South Korea, and was captured on CCTV footage from the underground parking lot. The fully electric sedan can be seen emitting white smoke while parked and not charging, likely from the floor-mounted battery. Moments later, the EQE erupts into flames, which then spread to nearby vehicles.

According to the Incheon Fire Department, the fire broke out around 6:15 am on the first basement floor of the apartment complex. A total of 177 emergency responders and 80 pieces of equipment were deployed to the scene. Local media reported that it took 8 hours to extinguish the fire. Electric vehicle fires are notoriously difficult to manage, though they occur less frequently than those in ICE-powered vehicles

Due to heavy smoke, a total of 209 residents had to evacuate their apartments, with nearly half being rescued by firefighters from stairs and balconies. Twenty residents, including seven infants and children under 10, were hospitalized after inhaling smoke, along with one firefighter.

A spokesperson from the local arm of Mercedes-Benz spoke to the Korea JoongAng Daily about the incident: “We can’t confirm details about the exact model and batteries at the moment. We are taking this very seriously and will do our best to collaborate with fire authorities to determine the exact cause.”

maybe they will have to segregate the car park, like only this fl for EV and another fl for ICE....This way ICE owners will not have the anxiety issue of not seeing thier cars again if they park next to EV...

Then 1 fl kaboom....all the EVs kaboom.....probably takes mths to put off...

EV fires can be put off like any fire, but once the battery burns, it will not die completely. The energy stored inside the battery will start heating up and start another fire until the stored energy is completely depleted.

There is nothing SCDF can do other than killing the fire temporary. The owner might have to make own arrangement with those battery management and disposal company to soak the battery in water until the energy totally depletes.

But then, EV battery ignite is just like ice car fuel tank leak and catches fire, can happen, but how often?  [laugh][laugh][laugh]
