Good luck to your mpv journey. Lol

Bought my first MPV eons ago for the same reason but ended up very under utilized. Boating can be a pain. 😂

I went the opposite 2 smaller cheaper cars than 1 mpv. Yes squeeze a little. But then journeys in sg are short.
wife don’t like driving to Malaysia so not a problem.

Just passing by while waiting for my meeting to start. Few points:

  • Noah, Serena and Stepwgn Spada are what I call box type MPV, which is not as comfortable as say Estima, Presage and Odyssey
  • All 3 models shortlisted are used as PHV (Noah the most common, followed by Stepwgn and least Serena)
  • New Odyssey (best choice for MPV as the low floor facilitate boarding) are still on sales in Japan (carried by PI), just that it is now assembled in China
  • Do take a look at the Sienta and 2025 Freed as the interior are quite spacious (but little boot space with the 3rd row up)
  • Take note that Mifa 7 is about the size of Alphard / Vellfire (>4.9m x 1.9m), which make it even bigger than Odyssey
  • Would suggest trying out a pre-owned Odyssey to see if you and your wife can get used to driving a MPV, begore settling on a BN one.

One more point to take note, while I can adopt to the body roll and lesser performance vs say a sedan, the rattling sound from the sliding doors can be very annoying at times but yet cannot be avoided.

For reference, I owned a Honda Stream for 4.5 years and VW Sharan for close to 6 years. And if I may add, I have a Crossroad for 4 years (4.2m 7 seater SUV), which suit my need when my kids are still young.

Haha usage pattern may vary depending on situation. But parents getting older won't change.

Hope I don't get car sick! Sometimes even my own car, I can get some mild motion sickness when there's lot of uneven road works esp those metal panels.

I find MPV still quite ok, won't feel much car sick as compared to SUV. I find sitting in those MPV like Freed, Estima etc quite stable and comfy than even some sedan.

Seems like my car sick also as serious as yours. Usually i also get car sick when sitting in a car, but if i self drive, i won't get car sick. But recent years, sometimes even when i self drive, i might get car sick when drive thru those uneven road. Lol.

I find Odyssey not a bad car, not difficult to handle and drive the car. Cause i have drove my company 2007 Odyssey once in a while when the car is still around back then, easy to drive but must get used to the car when park cause it seems like it is longer than a sedan.

Haha but the missus drive is only out of necessity. And family outing seldom drive 2 cars out, unless arriving at different times etc.

my BIL drives ody.
I've test driven the ody also before. and sat in it quite a number of times.

Sienta and Freed cannot lah. minimum is medium size mini-van for comfort reasons. I think my kids shouldnt be small sized since I'm 6 feet myself.

I didn't notice any rattling from the PHV Noahs I've taken.

Lol my car is 9.5 years old with no engine mount change. Lot that i can stomach in terms of minor rattling.

Ody is good workhorse.
Just about price only.

My BIL bought non-hybrid Ody at 130+k in June 2020. I think the 2.0 hybrid back then was another 16-18k on top of that which i advised against cos u wont make back the petrol cost.
COE then was 36-38k?

Now COE is 100k. but the 2.0 eHEV Ody is 230k + based on ads.

As detailed in my previous post on the Electric cars thread. Looks like going to be bread van driver in coming years.

Features, specs and trims can be easily found on websites.

Things can change as more PHEV models come into play. But given the focus on Crossovers and Alphard-sized competitors by the Chinese EV makers. I think this JDM category will be one of the last to get targeted.

Last night i spent some time looking for Japan crash ratings for the 3 above vehicles. All 3 should have the full suite of driver safety tech assistants.

Spada

Noah/Voxy

Serena

All 3 have 5 star japanese ratings. However i think if you look at the structural at the middle part of the vehicle, on the frontal and frontal overlap crash testing, the Toyota comes off best, maybe serena edges out Spada.
For side collision, the Serena comes off best, followed by Noah. The Spada toppled over which is not good.

Typically volumes are lower at high coe prices thus have to earn more per car.

Seems like the Serena is a better option than the Toyota triplets.

Electric only drive with no worry about charging anxiety.

Slight dislike being its built to budget and size, so the seat widths are just so-so

Can test drive them to try.

I have an odyssey, and its a good family car, except the torsion beam and droning engine.

My other car's COE is coming up, so another MPV is not out of the question because of its practicality...

Never know if I have to go marketing, ikea, carry kids or elderly

Also considering used cars to skip the COE drought periods, mainly because the kitty's tight

hi guys, new to this forum here

I drive a 2015 Odyssey. Can't say it's not served me well. Ride is okay-ish but I do like the handling of it. Gotten used to the size of it. Second Sturtles' comment on the torsion and engine.

I'm known in the household as the "bus driver" by the kids. Also use it frequently to ferry video equipment for shoots thanks to the fold down seats.
But since my COE gonna be up next Nov, I can't put pen to paper on such a drinker of a car!

Been lurking around different forums to see what's the consensus amongst the drivers in SG and thinking of getting another used one to tide over as well.

Would any drivers here with MPV sizes such as the Odyssey be considering a smaller ride like Noah/Voxy? Or go with a Serena?
