Nice really. Something that is with obvious difference compare to previous few generations. But why the Germans can't make the center console less intrusive to the rear center? Might as well make the rear a 2 seater instead.

The liftback design in general. Of course the design will be different as part of vw product differentiation.

But since vw group share parts, once u are inside the car, u will start to see common parts used - the sports pedal and cruise control stalk is 1 example.

I'm guessing that when it gets here, whoever the AD then (heard PA gonna fry cuttlefish), it'll probably be low spec, stripped down poverty trim w tiny rims, basic everything 

And in return, make China EVs the smart buy instead....

octavia is based on a3. if gonna match class for class its probably superb

Yup. That is VW group's strategy on how they offer cheaper models under skoda brand. Taking smaller chassis e.g MQB evo from A3 and stretching it for Octavia. The superb is also using same chassis but stretched even longer to offer A6-like rear legroom.
