Two Chinese nationals were killed when a tour bus, driven by a man with no driving licence, overturned while travelling downhill from Genting Highlands on June 29, reported New Straits Times (NST).

The tour bus was carrying 21 people – 18 Chinese tourists and three Malaysians – when the accident occurred at about 10.40am.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Mohamad Zaidi Wan Isa told The Star that both male victims suffered head injuries, and their bodies were taken to Bentong Hospital.

The department’s deputy director of operations Ismail Abdul Ghani said that the two victims were trapped in the vehicle, while the other passengers managed to exit the vehicle with light injuries, NST reported.

Gaming giant Genting Malaysia, which runs an integrated resort in Genting Highlands, said in a statement that the tour bus, which was ferrying Chinese tourists from Yunnan, was owned by a third-party operator.

The 32-year-old bus driver was driving without a licence, said the Bentong district police chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, adding that the man had been issued 27 traffic summonses.

The latest accident was a “stark reminder of the persistent road safety issues” facing Malaysia, said Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, chairman of the Alliance for a Safe Community.

Last time never scare to take bus up north, and had taken so many times liao. But now maybe old liao, will never take bus up north esp hear so many horror stories. If want to go up north, own self drive. If cannot drive, then rather don't go.

Last time I drive to Genting, along the highway, coaches wants to challenge you. They will go as fast as 110km/h, the road speed limit.

Msia steps are so much simple than us.

Insurer has to pay all victims.

After that, insurer can pursue whoever they want.

It is all about enforcement. Regulations is nothing if there is no enforcement.

And that's what worries me in the recent years. Just pop over to the reckless driving thread and see how some of the PHV and private vehicles accumulated multiple summon, some more than 20 - 30, some vehicles with expired road tax (and no insurance) for more than 1 year... ...

If our authorities continue to sit on the issue, slow but surely we will be like our neighbor by the next decade.

Summon like speeding, illegal parking and such may be tag to vehicle number instead of driver, thus his identity and lack of valid driving license might be unknown to the authority.

That must have been a long time ago. Buses now are speeding at above 140Km/h up north. The max record in my encounter is 160+ and that is when I release my throttle, as I don't want to risk my live (as well as those onboard).

Donkey years ago,  I road trip to Kuantan. On route 3 travelling around 120km/h. This 5 Star tour bus keep tailgate me,  I moved to the side sand patch and let it go first.  Some of route 3 is also very winding, so I never trust all this bus.
