Mexico will give middle finger to trump.

Hearsay, BYD will bring entire supply chain to Mexico.

They did the same to the Japanese decades ago, forcing them to build plants in US.

CNA just did a pretty good documentary on East vs West in the clean energy sector.

The Automotive business involves 7% of total EU employment. They cannot let it crash.

Far right gained in european elections.

French workers will keep their jobs while Germans might lose theirs given they are big auto exporter to China.

China could impose tariff on french wines too.  Whatever hurts.

What is surprising is they need as much as 38% tariff to stop the Chinese.

In Germany, BYD Seal is priced at the same level as BMW 318 (without option).

With 17% tax, it is likely to be at the same level as BMW 320 (without option).

So the plan is to keep Chinese out with 38% tariff and continue to sell ICE cars made by angmos in Europe?

Buy popcorn and wait for the Chinese to put tariff on German cars.  Maybe we will get cheaper i4 and i5 here as the Germans also got a huge overcapacity issue that needs to be fixed.

I think Germany got more to lose.

Look at BMW alone. Their 7 series biggest customer is China. China buy lot of Germany luxury and expensive stuff.

They sell cheaper cars to Germany.

No matter how I see. If both nation sanctions each other on cars sales.

Germany lose out.

The one with a bigger auto market will probably have an edge but I read German premium marques enjoys very high margin in China.

Anyway, the Germans knows this is not good for them and yet they can't stop it. After Merkel, they are no longer big brother in Europe.

Maybe this is just posturing to press more Chinese EV companies to set up shops in EU.  The Europeans are more reasonable generally and i think there will be a deal.

Just move production from Dingolfing to Shenyang.
