Another disappointing first half, but came through it unscathed, with Frimpong's goal ruled out for handball, and then 2nd half found the chance to hit opponent when they lost concentration, and then from there, clinical finishings did the job, coupled with a few good saves.

As i said yesterday, i'm happy to be proven wrong if Pool keeps winning, so long may this continue.

Gravenberg played very well - much better than last season - for the first 2 mth+ this season, but the last couple of matches, he hasn't been that great. Salah has lost the pace and trickiness that saw almost all left backs on the planet feared him, but still found a few good opportunities every match, just that often can't finish them off. At least he provided a couple of assists so that's good. Gakpo and Diaz delivered, and Nunez was trying hard to catch up - and did a fine run but failed to find the net.

Let's hope with an extra day's of rest, we can get all 3 points against Villa next.

City has lost 3 matches in a row... hope that will have a negative impact on them, when they play Brighton - who isn't a bad team - next.

Got it off the internet -

Arne Slot has some positive words for Xabi Alonso in today's #LFC matchday programme notes.

"To become champions of Germany is a wonderful achievement in itself but to do so without losing a single game makes it even more remarkable," he writes.

“They also had to show all of the characteristics of champions. There were games in which they were dominant, games in which they were not at their best but still found a way, and games in which their quality was so high that it was impossible not to view them as one of the strongest teams in Europe.

“Of course, a lot of this is down to their head coach, Xabi Alonso, someone who I know does not need any introduction to our supporters, who recall him with incredible fondness for what he did as a player at Liverpool.

"I was not a Liverpool supporter but I have always been a football fan and anyone from my generation who falls into this category would share this admiration.

“Xabi was a top-class player and he is proving himself to be of the same level as a manager. I would like to welcome him back to Anfield and I know that in doing so I will be in tune with the feelings of everyone who is inside the stadium tonight.

"In doing this, though, we are all aware that there will be no sentimentality from him and this means that there cannot be any from us. The maximum respect we can give any former player is to be the best Liverpool that we can possibly be, with no quarter asked and no quarter given."

Quote

On the Kop singing his name towards the end of the game...

It's always better for a manager that this happens than when they start to boo! It's special. It was special from the start and, therefore, I think I have to thank Jürgen [Klopp] because he was the one who came up with the song. It is always special if you are a player if they sing for you. Some players get used to this – I didn't, they only sung a few times for me in my playing career. That's what you see a bit more [and] people singing for a manager is not that common, at least not in Holland but maybe here it happens a lot. So, it was nice to hear today, but I also like it a lot that after that they sang for Xabi as well because he was so special for this club, so he deserves it for this, but also his achievements at Leverkusen – champions last year, won the cup, played a final in Europe. For all these reasons, he deserved the fans to sing for him as well.

Part of Slot's press conference...

Looks like he's quite good at saying the right things - just like Klopp was... and unlike some not-so-likeable managers out there...

In previous season, we joked that

- Pool often let the other team score first, and then score a few comeback goals to win the game.

Now,

- Pool play lousy in first half and then come out as a different team in 2nd half.....

Maybe these are the secret tactics bah.....😆

Klopp is a tough act to follow/match, so honestly i'm not convinced Slot can replace Klopp adequately... actually, who can?

But if that is really Slot's intended tactics, then i will rank him up there with the best now already - such is the success (shown by the results so far)...

So we should just save time watch only the 2nd half...😁

Look like Slot played the first half by absorbing up opponent tactics and comes up with counter-attack on opponent weakness in second half. [sly]

That's why first half, Pool look sloppy but comes out second half deadly. :we-all-gonna-die:

This is what I thot so too..

Letting the team play at a comfy pace in the first half maybe to conserve some energy.. make adjustments to tactics in 2nd half to open up the opponent's... using late subs to allow key players more rest and close off the game....

Slot vs Alonso.  Alonso looked almost clueless on the touchline while Slot looks the calm, sly and calculated schemer.  in the end, it was a non-contest once the first goal went in.  Alonso should have known better for such Anfield night was coming his way but his team looked totally shell shocked when the fans turned on the heat.

Pool simply overwhelmed the midfield with better engines and speed of attack. All the goals were built nicely from the back or counters.  Pool could have scored a couple more if Salah had been more clinical or decisive with his final touch or shots.

Both AV and Arsenal lost last night.
