sat in one when my wife's cousin went to pick up us from the airport in hainan... the car is quite popular there also.

very spacious with a huge control tablet inside (i know its quite common now).

but what impressed me is their battery charging/swap stations. you can just drive into the unmannned automated swap station, then go for a short  10-15 mins break and then drive off with another fully charged battery. if this can happen in SG, it might be a draw.

This will be a popular B&B car that's going to put much fear into Toyota, Honda/Nissan/Mitsubishi, Mazda, Volkswagan, Ford, G&M and similar Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) dinosaurs.

The Premium version of the Aion Y Plus includes the ADAS safety features that's sadly missing in the lower Executive version - a bit disappointed on that. I'd pay the $10k difference just for the ADAS and getting a safer ride for the next 10 years.

Open Market Value (OMV) is $28,500 (based on SG Car Mart website) for the Premium version and working the numbers, the Authorized Dealer (AD) is making a nice 100% markup based on OMV. So don't believe the Sales Executive (SE) if there's no way of getting the vehicle on the listed price of $153k based on current Cat A COE pricing of $96k.There's lots of margin for the AD to absorb the COE price.

GAC Aion is the competitor to BYD - so expecting much in features and value for money coming from GAC. Easily beats the BYD Dolphin and Atto 3. There's really nothing that the ICE dinosaurs can offer that competes with this. Was looking at the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid - the Aion Y Plus Premium is the better vehicle at a lower price.

The 10k gap is too much just for ADAS and essentially 18 vs 17 inch rims, ventilated and electric (based on spec sheet, these two are the major differences). They could probably sell a lot more premium if they price it closer.

I see that there a new aion model coming in this year. Design seems nicer than the Y.

Depends on how much one values life and safety in general. Avoiding an a vehicle accident with ADAS, the subsequent insurance and associated hospital costs will more than make up the $10k difference.

Not having ADAS feature in a vehicle puts the driver, passengers and the general public at a greater risk of a vehicle accident.

I mostly value blind spot monitoring.

But yes I would agree. It should be compulsory with 6 airbags for me.

The aion ES I realised has 2 airbags on the spec sheet.

ADAS only out recently. Massive amounts of people have died in the past. Seat belts saved the most. Airbags to a lesser extent. ADAS that is now available is but the very basic level stuff. It is a stretch to say ADAS is that wonderful. 🤣

Don’t need bags or seat belts. With ADAS no accidents in the first place. 🤣

AEB is just one part of ADAS suite that has been out for a while now - mostly in high end luxury vehicles. Think Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc. Euro NCAP was testing AEB since 2014. Link is here: https://www.euroncap.com/en/car-safety/the-ratings-explained/safety-assist/aeb-car-to-car/

Don't take my word on the safety benefits of AEB within ADAS, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will make automatic emergency braking (AEB), including pedestrian AEB, standard on all passenger cars and light trucks by September 2029. See here:https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/nhtsa-fmvss-127-automatic-emergency-braking-reduce-crashes#:~:text=“Automatic emergency braking is proven, new cars and light trucks.

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has found that AEB with pedestrian detection reduces the risk of injury by 30% back in May 2022.

I would not be purchasing a vehicle if doesn't have ADAS. Everyone likes to think he/she is a safe driver and much better than those on the road. That is until one day chance doesn't work in your favor and you become another statistic.

One of the things to keep in mind is the price difference between the Executive vs. Premium version that has ADAS features is only $10k. The added costs of the ADAS is reflected in the the Open Market Value (OMV) of the vehicle.

The OMV price difference between the Executive and Premium version is $4.1k (refer to SG Car Mart website).  Once you factor in the AFR, 20% excise duty and 9% GST, the additional tax costs come out to a little over $7k. Sub-total for getting ADAS and all other extras should be a little over $11.1k.

But since GAC/AD/Vin Motor is only charging an additional $10k instead of $11.1k, they are effectively eating some of this additional tax (about $1.1k) of the Premium version into their margin. This is reflected in the obnoxious dealer mark up of just under 100% on the Premium version vs. the obscene dealer mark up of 117% on the Executive version.

Surprised to see that Vincars is offering 6 years of free service with the Anion Y Plus. This seems unusually high.

Noticed that GAC Anion Y Plus is not taking full advantage of the EEAI rebate (45% of AFR or max of -$15k) which is currently -$6.9k on the Premium version and a low -$1.16k on the Executive version. There's scope for Vincars to add some extra such as better tires, extend the battery warranty to 10 years or 250,000km, service for 10 years and increase the OMV. Whilst still get the full use of the EEAI rebate - and not increasing the current price.

@steveting99

Brother ting! Your hands too oily after eating KFC?

Aion become Anion?

I think you don't own the Aion Y Plus. But I think you should, because the the Aion Y Plus looks like a van, spacious enough to fit you for a single uncle in his 40s with a potbelly. Do it for the sake of everyone, no one likes seating next to someone occupuing one and a half seats on the mrt or bus.

Yoooo kaki lefti!

Welcome to the Aion Y Plus thread... good to see you here finaly 😝. Can compare the Aion Y Plus Premium to the Hyundai Kona hybrid 1.6 Elite? I've attached a comparison from sg car mart for your information (as at 25-Jan-2025) and included a few others in the Cat A CoE compact SUV segment. Nothing from Cat B as it would favour the Aion too much.

Notice first of all the large price difference between the Kona and all others. Between the Aion Y Plus and Kona it's above $44k and that extra cash comes back into my pocket by going with the Y Plus and not the Kona hybrid. Understand that you're going to hit me with the highest price possible for Kona 🤣- while giving all others a nice discount from Komoco (the AD for Hyundai). Thanks alot for the incentive! 🙃

From a features perspective - the panoramic sun roof makes the Aion Y Plus feel more spacious, roomy and airy compared to the claustrophobic feeling of the Kona - even though the Kona has a small sun roof over the front seats.

The 1,000mm+ leg room in the back seats makes it easy to get into and out of the Aion Y Plus without the need to bend the back. Great for those who need to fit child seats and young families or with those who have elderly parents / relatives to move around. Can almost walk through the back of the Aion Y Plus as the rear doors open to 90 degrees. How much leg room does the Kona hybrid have in the back seat again?🤭

@steveting99

Understand the need for you to have spacious leg room at the rear because of your size 😁 But you don't have any kids, let alone a partner in SG right now, why do you need such big space?

But you sure you need such a big sunroof being a bui-bui? Your armpits will sweat and your BO wooooosh, but at least it's in a private car and not stench up others in the MRT.

Yes brother ting, think Aion Y Plus wil be more suitable as it looks like a van for single buibui uncles and can fit you perfectly going based on your socials. Anyone interested to see can just PM me, you will understand what I'm saying.

Hah, actually I think the difference is more than 44k, it's 90k in fact going from the original price of the KONA of 240k since it's listed in the brochure. That's thousands more arteries clogging KFC meals for you!

But all in all, why don't you own a car brother ting? Why would anyone in SG want car advice from someone who came from HK less than 5 years ago and does not own a car. Stop preaching, boomer!!!
