I just did some fuel vs charging consumption cost comparing a freed ehev vs equivalent byd m6.

Hev vs BEV math.

Assume 5km/kwh for a byd doing shortish school runs. Assume 16-18km/L for the hybrid. Assume 55 cents/kwh for charging. Ron 92 Petrol at 2.90 average before discount.

Given my 2 kids current school runs alone for say 300 days a year, that's about 15000km base. More likely around 18k km given the additional trips here and there. As it would take over the more thirsty elantra as the school run vehicle.

Taking 18km/l FC and more lousy 16km/l FC. Fuel costs roughly work out to be $2400 - 2700 (can be as low as 2230 if spc 23% off).

For 3600kwh, the charging cost alone is $1980.

I'm surprised that even with 18000km/year the difference in terms of saving for a non landed charging is so small.

And I think petrol is going to be cheaper or stable in coming years whereas energy is going to be more expensive as Charging providers need to recoup their network setup cost. All Charging providers in sg are currently in the red. And they won't stomach it for longer once the adoption rate goes up (conversely petrol stations may also charge higher margin to offset reduced volume).

@Advancer

How is the suspension like very bouncy or does very well over uneven road??

It look lower, does it goes over the hump well or have to be very careful

Does it frequent will scratch the bottom?

I use the number from LTA.

Freed

Based on 4.4L/100km, that will be 792L.  The cost is $2.3k for petrol.  After 23% disc, it will be $1,800.

M6

It is 187wh/km.  3,400kwh/annum.  The charging cost is $2k.  Due to start/stop traffic for school run, i discount 10% of your mileage (due to recuperation of regen brake).  The charging cost reduced to $1,850.

=================

The difference will be car price.

Road tax would be $684 vs $1502 -->$8k over 10 years.

And insurance in favour of freed too. Not sure if can be balanced out by servicing costs.

BYD can set regen braking to minimum.

My calculated petrol cost was taking into account 17% discount which is pretty standard with any basic CC payment. So i take that as a given.
If i make full use of the 23% i get at SPC khatib which I've been doing for last few years, it can be 2200+ not even including the additional POSB everyday reward points, which can cut it down another few percent.

Anyway my point was that any massive savings in terms of running cost would come only if u compared to traditional ICE engines. Comparing b&b BEV vs b&b HEV, I don't see much advantage in terms of cost savings at all.

All hybrid and EV uses brake-by-wire.

When you step on brake pedal, regen brake then mechanical brake.

As EV has bigger motor and battery, it will recover more energy.

I said previously, it boils down to car price difference + insurance & road tax (not I say)

Suspension does well over uneven road. Much more comfortable than my previous HRV which was known to be hard.

Does not feel like it will scratch the bottom easily, so far none for me.

If the ride quality over crappy roads is better than the hrv etc then that's a plus. Given it's torsion beam setup.

Vezel/hrv suspension is not the best.

It’s a commuter not a crossover so I’ll be careful and manage expectations

however I did wish they brought in the six seater crossover version

Yup it's a city car. So expectation is as such.

No one will know. Just like they may increase road tax once EV hits critical mass adoption. If they feel that road tax can't make up for the shortfall in petrol duty.

Exactly ... car ownership is not cheap in SG, so buy when you need it and can afford it and live with the consequences.. marginal buyers beware... ICE / EVs are not cheap in the new car world.

20 years ago, I might have considered two cars, but right now, I'm just saving up to replace my existing car when it expires

In addition, Freed has PARF while M6 has none.
