They had 8, lost one.

But bought 30 pre-love versions from Kuwait....

Refitted

.

They need more to fly near to Spratly...

The thing is, a SCS hot blow up will not be limited to the SCS.

It would almost definitely result in a blockade of malacca straits from the Indian Ocean end.

It's not just the SCS Malaysia ...and Singapore... is looking at.

Million dollar question is who would Singapore support.

Didn't know RAAF has so many Lightning II.

It can be component fatigue or defect over time caused by wear and tear, of course there would have been preventive maintenance as well.

Heng ah...at least safer...better check all components on the 15...no need care about the 18 which our neighbour has...😁

When the F-16 was first introduced it was known as the “Electric” jet due to its fly by wire (ie fully digital) controls. The F-15 still relies on mechanical linkages to hydraulic actuators. That being said, many aircraft are reliant on sensors such as pitot tubes to measure air pressure, etc. to provide feedback. The gyros are merely another means for the F-16.

I believe the F14 also mechanical...given the vintage

I find it odd that MINDEF hasn’t released any images of the crashed Viper yet though

Probably undercarriage gone, given just after takeoff or abandoned takeoff, unlikely the pilot has retracted the undercarriage unless already has positive rate of climb.

However the more likely situation is possibly 1st detection of flight control issue is rotation of the flight stick at takeoff speed and no reaction from the aircraft...the. Pilot apply emergency actions, cut throttle, get into ejection position and pull the cord.

It that's the case the plane likely only lost a bubble canopy and require new nose wheels+new Martin Baker ejection seat.

F-16 are safe; rare occurrence, let’s move on.

But how badly damaged is the bird or is it a write off?

Footnote says the gyros are still the mechanical spinning rotor mounted on gimbals type. Maybe used for simplicity and reliability, since this is a fighter jet.

But the gyro used on airliners are the more modern laser gyro for quite some time already. No spinning moving parts.
