SZ* plates are already in use as rental cars. So current series will end at SY* series

"S" will still have to keep to identify as "Singapore" registered car.

It could be the other way round. [sly]

Up the value of your ER plate as it must be a very nice number that you have kept it for so long. [thumbsup]

No need to keep 'S' to identify SG registered car. You see even NRIC also can abandon S and now starts with T, and T doesn't link to SG.

Please use this for reference. Once you read this you will realize we still have a long way to go for current series

https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltagov/who_we_are/statistics_and_publications/statistics/pdf/M031-Car_Prefix.pdf

ya. took 40yrs to hit N, with E, H, I skipped. with around another 10 alphabets to go to hit Y, there will be some skipped like O. so at min it will be anther 30years to go. not the current crop of civil servants problem.

On average 60k new cars are registered every year , 21 alphabets are used ( 26 less 5 vowels ) , so it takes 1 year to move the last 6 alphabets , or around 3.5 years to move the middle alphabet .

Now is SN series , will need another 35 years to hit the SZ series ; ie sometime 2060 .

By then I up lorry already .

Actually SG car plate starts with S also no use, since some of the car plate from msia also starts with S.

Slight correction .

The last alphabet uses 24 ( All used except 'O' and  'I' ) .

The middle alphabet uses 21 ( all vowels not used ) .

So slight adjustments to the numbers but still around there la .
