@Kiroskyz I think Tesla covers for battery health drop if it’s below 80 or 70%? And 30k cheaper for Tesla? U have charger at your home? If so it’s really worth it. But of course all this is assuming you will drive 10 years, but I think most people will be hand itchy after 3-5 years

@GTO-1 for the kodiaq 2.0 probably won’t be coming into sg so fast I guess, with VES at C2 for them. It will be hard to compete against their competitors. Also you can explore X-trail, instant torque like EV, but the 3rd row is just like GLB. But if it’s a competition between GLB and X-trail, the Nissan definitely wins by far

@GTO-1 Are they still selling the kodiaq RS? Not surprised they are bringing in the base model only, hard to compete being a VES C1/C2

Though Kodiaq is cheaper, not sure what other benefits can they offer? I'm quite particular on the warranty and servicing portion which Santa Fe is willing to max out. Also, Kodiaq would be more underpowered compared to Santa Fe, and higher running cost. But agree that the price is attractive.

@thebestbeesyes, they do cover the battery 8 years 70%. However if it reduces by 20%, your range significantly reduces too. Then again, all pros and cons.

No more Kodiaq RS.  The salesperson advised the last Kodiaq RS was sold last week.  Besides the latest price on the Kodiaq RS (based on price list) was about $298k (after rebates).  I'm sure they would give further discounts, since they want to move the older units.  While I like the additional horsepower if the RS, I'm not a fan of the fuel efficiency and we'll likely be clocking close to 15k in a year.  Additionally, if I'm going to get a new car, I personally prefer the latest and greatest, and not an outgoing model.

I looked at the X-Trail a few weeks back and was genuinely considering it.  But the backseats are basically non-existent.  Even the sales person had to emphasise its a 5+2 and not a 7 seater.  They're basically unusable. 

The second thing that shocked me was the road tax is $2.5k per year.  Even though the combined horsepower is around ~200hp, the LTA measurement adds the power output of both front and rear engines, which amounts to about 250hp.  Add to that the fuel economy is not great for a hybrid.  The result is the running costs take the worst parts of the EV road tax structure and the fuel economy of an ICE engine.  Thirdly, it missed a few amenities I really wanted like ventilated and memory seats.  What I did like was it is the purchase price is fairly reasonable and it is proper AWD.  But with new cars like Kodiaq, Santa Fe and Sorento on the horizon, I didn't see the point on pulling the trigger until I saw these new offerings.

Kodiaq early bird comes with 3 year servicing basically 3x 15,000km/1 year servicing.

My take is they are positioning the Kodiaq to be the lowest cost option for a 7 seat SUV.  It comes in cheaper than even the xtrail.

@Kiroskyz good thing of Tesla’s battery is it is LFP, so can just fully charge them. Not like some EV which only recommends charging to 80%, machiam reducing the range by 20% . I think if warranty, the Santa Fe definitely wins with much better coverage

@GTO-1 that can only be their selling point, and I don’t think they can price it anymore cheaper with VES banding just against their cars right now.

@GTO-1 agreed on X-trail, kena whacked by EV road tax, lack of ventilated seats, 3rd row is really for young kids. But the drive is great, has AWD, Nappa leather, interior feels pretty good too. Too bad road tax and the small 3rd row and poor boot space with 3rd row up just turned me off.

Honestly, the wise money would be to wait until the end of the year to buy.  By then the Sorento will be out.  Any first mover price premium for the Santa Fe would've died down.  The Kodiaq would be in the market.  Additionally the Mazda Cx-80 may even be available (or at least more information will be available).  Most importantly though, the CoE is expected to trend downwards (nobody knows).

Unless you really think the early bird special for the Santa Fe is that "special".  Or if you value being one of the first.  The wiser person would wait if they can.

For me - I'm not wise and if the car drive turns out good, I'll pull the trigger.  I was lucky to get my car in 2019 when the COE was $30k, so my depreciation has been near minimal in this high-CoE environment.  Whether the COE drops or not, my trade-in value will follow suit, but what definitely will happen is the paper value will decrease due to lower ARF rebate.  Plus I want a new toy.

@GTO-1 I think CX80 not gonna be cheap at all considering how mazda prices their CX 60 at 287k now. 

I'm trading in my car and my cat b coe was 39k then. So basically I've no depreciation if I were to trade in now (gotten a few quotes). Like you said, used car price fluctuates with Coe as with new cars too. Underlying car value remains mainly the same, just the coe in play now and how competitive that segment of market is. For now, Santa Fe no competition, they can choose to price it higher.

I agree the Cx80 will probably be pricey.  I'm confident it would be a nice car though, albeit heavily compromised, like theyve done with the cx60.  They probably keep the same underpowered 2.5 engine.

The new facelift GLB front horizontal line at the front grill looks really ugly. The SUV is actually quite meh in term of price to equipment and safely package as compared to Korean SUV. Just paying for badge I guess.

It’s either badge and bare bones or Korean with all the bells and whistles. I feel the latter will be better and not mentioning the price also will be lower.

Which is why I don't understand the mindset of people buying entry level conti cars like GLA, GLB, A1, A3, 1 series, 2 series which i don't recommend to my family, relatives, friends or colleagues. 

If goes for conti base model, yes the badge is there so does the more expensive prices, wow you're driving a conti but so what? Anyway other people money, how they spend is their problem. 

The conti base model is usually bare bone equipment and missing active features in safely package is quite obvious or even lesser equipped compared to even base Korean cars. With that same conti base price you can even get a full spec korean cars with all the bell and whistles, comes with full active safety features, 7 to 8 airbags, adaptive crusie control, blind spot warning, front collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, safe exit assist, heated and ventilated seats, sunroof, full LED lights, power tailgate, memory seats, electric powered driver and front passenger seats etc.

Saw the new Santa Fe in the flesh..

The interior damn swee and luxurious using Lampa leather somemore..

Exterior like clone of Land Rover but their launch price at $280K a bit hard to stomach for me 🤭
