“REWARD THE SENSIBLE MOTORISTS” CAMPAIGN 2024

On 1 April 2024, the Traffic Police (TP) and Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) launched the “Reward the Sensible Motorists” campaign at the TP Headquarters. This campaign aims to encourage motorists to adopt good driving and riding habits. Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. Please refer to Annex A for photographs of the event.

Previously known as “Reward the Riders”, TP expanded the campaign category and duration this year to include drivers and renamed the campaign to “Reward the Sensible Motorists”. This is to signal that both motorcyclists and drivers, or motorists, play an important role in keeping the roads safe for all by adopting good driving and riding habits. Motorists who ride or drive safely and responsibly, e.g. signalling before changing lanes and giving way to other motorists and pedestrians, may be rewarded if spotted by TP officers. This campaign will run for six months, from 1 April to 30 September 2024.

The motorists spotted by TP will be given a goodie bag with special collectables. They will also be featured on TP’s “Use Your RoadSense” Facebook page to encourage other motorists to adopt good driving and riding habits. Exemplary motorists will be given a special award during the Singapore Ride Safe event in October 2024.

MOS Faishal said, “TP has been stepping up on their education, engagement and enforcement efforts. This “Reward the Sensible Motorists” campaign is one of the ways to encourage motorists, who play an important role in keeping the roads safe, to adopt good driving and riding habits. It is also a timely reminder for everyone to drive and ride more responsibly on the roads. I also urge businesses that manage large fleets of motorcycles and vehicles to instil a “safety first” culture in their organisations. They can help their employees be safer on our roads by allowing sufficient time to complete their work schedules.”

Commander of Traffic Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan, said, “Traffic accidents may leave a long-term psychological, emotional and financial impact on the families of everyone involved. Road safety is a shared responsibility. I strongly encourage motorists to adopt good driving and riding habits, even in the absence of Police presence. Be more gracious and patient when using the road.”

Chairman of SRSC, Mr Bernard Tay, said, “The “Reward the Sensible Motorists” campaign is an excellent platform for us to reach out to more people to emphasise the importance of good road use habits. I hope that those who have been spotted by TP officers for displaying good habits will encourage others to do the same.”

These jokers should go on the roads and just catch those erratic vans, lorries or heavy vehicles drivers instead starting such a campaign. Confirm better than having this.

This campaign makes me feel like Singapore drivers are fked up that’s why there’s a need for a campaign to reward good driving behaviours.

Sensible people don’t need reward to drive sensibly

bad drivers need to be caught and punished to drive sensibly

so yes. A waste of resources

Just another lame, tick-the-box campaign that's long past it's expiry date

But guess the scholars know best.....

Here is an idea for oyk to work with his bro and rub a with liches.

there are high ability ill ppl around. They battle depression and low self worth.

they redirect energy towards useful applications in education and help with funding from Porsche crashing liches. 🤣

Simple things such as dedicated apps for compartmentalized data….why must blackboard and pay them…use something like Chilli crab for lack of a better name.

Sense? Very sensible I think.

they are so sad and lost human beings.

throw chow but never improve our own people.

Use overpaid and underuse handle complaint department of oyk office to manage. output for tangible improvement as well as political gain.

first gen enough?

The current setup simply disincentivises a given set of conditions, e.g. drink driving, speeding beating red lights or all 3. The regulations can never cover everything, which means that one can drive like an a-hole on the road without breaking any law.

However a goodie bag is about as useful as a good driver decal (anyone remember those)? Waste time only.

Give something more significant or don’t bother lah. The only thing that is meaningful is that 5% good driver discount that insurance companies recognise, and the authorities should build on that.

Well modern parents believe that reward is better than punishment in producing a desired outcome.

And so they applied it to motorist also la...

They spend so much on social media compaigns and churning out videos and ads

I rather they deploy more or hire more TPs.

Especially when catching speeding foreign vehicles. If more TPs can enforce, the driving community can feel it directly, much better than 10 of your stupid social media compaigns. I dunno why LTA/URA cannot see this point.

It is like rewarding people for picking up rubbish on the road while not having enough enforcement officers catching the litters in the act. 😁
