7.2-magnitude earthquake hits near Taiwan, triggers tsunami warning in Okinawa, Japan

"TAIPEI - An earthquake offshore Taiwan with a magnitude of 7.2 rocked Taipei, the capital, on April 9 morning, knocking out power in several parts of the city and sparking a tsunami warning for the islands of southern Japan and the Philippines.

Taiwan television stations showed footage of some collapsed buildings in Hualien, near the quake’s epicentre, and media reported some people were trapped.

The quake could be felt as far as Shanghai, according to a Reuters witness."

Wah, ST can predict the future.

I have the opportunity to speak to a monitor  'lab' set up at NTU monitoring the 'quakes' around our region. They take readings and measurements whenever tremors happen. It was interesting to note that actually tremors are happening quite frequently, just that we didn't feel it. A big one around 500 km from Singapore may strikes and that will have significant impact but none of the buildings are expected to be damaged. Not sure the pipes, cables, fixtures will remain intact lah. Hope it can delay forever 😂

If a person has a house in Taiwan or Japan and the house is destroyed in an earthquake,  would he be able to get some of his money back, or would it be a complete loss?

I drove through this road in my road trip in 2019 to 花莲 and northern part of 台东.

I subscribed to USGS earthquake notification service.

Must limit the location and magnitude.

Otherwise, there are a lot of emails from USGS

Must have earthquake cover.

Just like your home insurance must have flood cover

The money not enough to rebuild the house. Must pay for clearing debris et cetera.

rebuild power water and sewage. Some more Taiwan cannot build wood tatami house. That’s why prefab metal house common, easy to clear and rebuild.

go neihu and beo lor.

the real damage is in the rural mountain areas, no money no help. Landslides… Tough people yuan Zhu min ah.

how chowhound? Up for another run?
