Being a container vessel, she has got 5 x 850KV auxiliary engines (generators). It's really strange that there will be a total blackout as she still has not commenced her sea passage and she should still have 2 generators running when she is still within the port vicinity.

I think lost of power happened when it was moving out of the Port

im guessing as a vessel that size, there must be a set of safety procedures to check and follow, it could take a while to switch power and restart the engine?🤔

from a country perspective? not much. Except help lead the investigation. SG/MPA has been pushing for years for such vessels to register under SG flag. Not surprising for an SG-flagged vessel to be involved in an incident outside of SG waters.

liabilities will sent to P&I club. Perhaps declare force majeure. Ship registry state, ship owner/operator/charterer rarely bear the full costs.

implications for Baltimore will be a lot more significant. Blockage of main waterway, loss & repair of span (bridge) etc. Not to mention the loss of life.

i'm glad it's not terrorism-linked.

Why? What does singapore get if flags register under sg flag?

$4b will be split globally.

As I said earlier, it will be another round of global inflation.

Yes, it will take some time to restart her generators. The total blackout would indicate something more serious underlying. From her records, her last Special Survey was in April 2020 and we really can't speculate too much. The cloud of black smoke may indicate she was also trying to back out which may cause kneeling and squatting of the half laden vessel further aggravating the situation. Well, in any case the entire ship management industry in Singapore has been taken over by CECA and wriggling out in any tight situation is definitely not uncommon.

Money.

Singapore-flagged ships need to incorporate an SG company here. Which means more tax $$$ to earn

erm ... it should be the other way round ... you get huge huge tax incentives and almost pay next to nothing for corporate tax for 10 - 15 years hor ....

1 main condition is that you have to buy most things from SG registered companies ...

Tax incentive yes but I don't think they pay nothing. They just pay less than other countries.

Small amount but it adds up. Singapore has 5th most number of flagged ships in the world. A bit here and a bit there is quite a lot.

tiagong this "local expenditure" requirement is a scam.

e.g. a trading company can inflate it by "sleeving" their charting requirements thru an sg company. Like if you wanna charter a ship from some greeks, you ask your friendly sg company friend to do it, then you charter from your sg company friend for a small markup. tada, local spending.

I read the timeline; it’s really disaster in slow motion. But critically they were able to get police officers to close the bridge from both ends such that there wasn’t traffic on it, except the construction crew that were on it but unaware of the impending collision
