Guess the nationality of the captain and crew.

And also the ship stucked at Suez Canal in 2021.

22 Indian crews. All of them are safe. Regardless of nationality is an accident (mechanical?)no one wanted it.

Quoted from BBC.

The cargo vessel, called the Dali, was built in 2015 and sails under the flag of Singapore. It can carry 10,000 shipping containers (standard 20 foot units). It was carrying 4,679 units.

The ship - which was destined for Sri Lanka - is owned by Grace Ocean Investment and operated by Synergy Group.

The vessel, which was carrying Maersk cargo containers, had two pilots on board at the time of the crash, according to Grace Ocean. One of the pilots was reportedly an apprentice.

There were also 22 crew members on the ship, the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore said in a statement.

Synergy Marine said the 22-person crew are from India and there are no reports of injuries.

The Indian Embassy in Washington DC has set up a hotline for any citizens involved, which has been shared on social media here.

Makes those BlueSG/GetGo crashing into public infrastructure pale in comparison..

Jokes aside, hope there are minimal casualties and the city gets speedy aid.

This is a tragedy. I always have the fear that those suspended bridge across sea might have the risk of ship hitting on the bridge, and the bridge would collapse.

Which reminds me of the Sentosa cable car tragedy .... the Drill or Rig ship touched the cables ..... lots of investigations and also seems the captain was not certified or something like that even .....this was back in the 1980's

Supercharged

Luckily master  called mayday once vessel lost thrush 4 mins before it hit the bridge …

these 4 mins allowed the bridge to be closed and helps prevent a lot cars and people falling into the sea ..

say all we want about USA , their emergency response to the closing of the bridge is damm impressive lo … had it been any other countries , even for SG , I believe those 4 mins will be wasted calling the higher up for instructions lo ..

from a country perspective? not much. Except help lead the investigation. SG/MPA has been pushing for years for such vessels to register under SG flag. Not surprising for an SG-flagged vessel to be involved in an incident outside of SG waters.

liabilities will sent to P&I club. Perhaps declare force majeure. Ship registry state, ship owner/operator/charterer rarely bear the full costs.

implications for Baltimore will be a lot more significant. Blockage of main waterway, loss & repair of span (bridge) etc. Not to mention the loss of life.

i'm glad it's not terrorism-linked.

I am sure over and on top of the cost of rebuilding of the bridge, the economic cost of the disruption will be added to the insurance bill..... no billions no count...
