The Li Autos L7, L8 and L9 have some interesting hybrid propulsion technology. They call it REEV (range extended electric vehicle). Basically it has a 1.5T 4 cylinder engine which will be used to charge the battery pack, which in turn will power the electric motor to drive the wheels. This is pretty much like Nissan's e-Power tech except its 42 kWh battery is much bigger and it should be capable of at least 200km pure electric range which the Nissans cannot do. It also has a 65L fuel tank. Output can be over 400hp with 620Nm torque when charged sufficiently.

This means LTA will classify it as a hybrid, not as an EV, which means very low road tax given the power. You can also do both AC & DC charging and charge it up as any other EVs or PHEVs, which again the Nissan e-Powers cannot do.

If this car comes here, I will get it. Seriously impressive.

Unfortunately, road tax for hybrid is based on engine capacity and power of electric motor, whichever is higher. The only saving is the $700 AFC which is levied only on BEV. But since hybrid run on petrol, petrol duties of $0.66 - $0.79 per litre will apply, LPPL lor. Our LTA is not so stupid one...

Saw this Li L8 when I am in China last year. A very well proportion SUV. [thumbsup]

How come Boomers nvr diu it?
😂😂😂😂😂

Their market pursue tech and perceive buttonless as high tech as the expense of true practicality. Nothing beats the old school buttons operation which still prove to be safer.

You just burst my bubble 🤣

$4k a year is equivalent to some 300kW (400hp) EVs. Really LPPL...

One man's meat is another man's poison, i will never get this.

First of all, it will likely be expensive and the reason for me to move to EV is to cut down on visits to petrol station and to workshop, whether for regular maintenance and/ or repairs.

And to save mother earth, but it is an afterthought. 😂😂😂

Pay so much road tax but still need to go for car inspection or not? Nothing to check also.

Knowing LTA collecting more money is not an issue for them.

After Carbon82 has shown me the reality of its road tax, I will just stick to EV as well 🤣

$63 before GST.

Cheaper by $21 because no smoke test for diesel.

Cheaper by $10 because no additional test for petrol

@Volvobrick just shows how “ flawed “ the road tax system is right now

It is outdated.

How can A45s pay the same road tax as A250?
