Actually even now. They might still charge him with revealing official secrets etc... he's kinda taking a big risk still. Though I think his employers got big lawyer dept to back him.

The original leaker will get it first, too. That means everyone in the chat group will join the reporter as well, to get charged in court.

And technically, after the fact had happened, would it still be considered a secret? That is, if the reporter only published this after the airstrike had taken place.

Now the only defense is that Hegseth has the power to de-classify any info. Technically, he can back-date de-classify those things said in the chat.

A lot of Sg Govt documents cannot be declassified until some years later.
