The whole market is in turmoil. US importers won't know how much to import from China, as tariff changes from day to day.

Most of American stuffs are made in China or parts made in China, including well-known brand names.

but but imagine how much tariff the govt can collect from China? aren't they supposed to be happy,  I know trump must be celebrating now!

It's the little guys that suffers most.

At 11:15... the lady made a very good point about the tariff difference between China and India. It is an existential difference. Was it deliberate or coincidental?... id think probably coincidental.

It’s not “collect from” China, but ultimately from Americans buying goods coming from China. So one out of every two Americans who voted for DT, voted for this and is paying, to the US Government.

Not China.

All the US buying managers etc will be telling Chinese manufacturers.. "you absorb tariffs.  At least 50%".

Some might lelong, but it will be just the batch they are holding now and reduce their output in the future. No one will lelong forever. on the long run, prices will go up.

Agreed. And after selling off a llelong price maybe the company also end up getting lelong away. No more product and no more jobs.

Countries try to negotiate with US but it is not "negotiation". It is just listening and obeying US demands. A few countries even agreed to drop all tariff on US products, also not enough. Trump demand them to satisfy "non-tariff" imbalances. That means asking the other country to import more buy more from US. But it is rather silly to expect poor countries like cambodia, laos, etc. to absorb more US products when it is generally too expensive for the "peasant" populations (JD says one)

Really dumb and full of showmanship.

With 10% tariff, China will try to weaken the Yuan and maybe some desperate manufacturers/ exporters will absorb some of those tariff to keep the orders flowing. With 100%, noone will do anything and they will need to buy from other sellers, who will raise prices if they have capacity. It is hard to fully replace the outputs of Chinese manufacturers for a lot of products.  So Americans will pay through their ass.

This is not quite the stunt to pull in any negotiation knowing the other party know there is no deal on the table.
