VP is pretty useless other than to serve as tie breaker if senate is deadlocked at 50-50.

Its just supposed to bring other people to your ticket or shore up more support within your party. 

There have been presidents and VPs who dislike each other. 

Or a unexperienced bush backed up by his father's old ginger in Cheney. 

JFK was the face that resonated with voters. But actually the most powerful Democrat was LBJ. He had total control of the senate. Doubt that JFK actually liked LBJ, but no choice. And vice versa. 

Bringing in Vance yeah didn't help but hindered. But everyone knows Trump already. He's a known quantity.
