nowadays these 'influencer' can fake anything just to boost their viewership and followers, speechless.

A Taiwanese streamer has been arrested for allegedly faking his own kidnapping.

Chen Neng Chuan, known by his online name Goodnight Chicken, did a broadcast on February 12 where he explored a hostel that allegedly housed job scam victims. During the stream, he entered the building but was “caught” by guards patrolling the grounds, and the stream was then cut off.

After this, his wife and friends did a stream on his account expressing concern over his disappearance, saying they had no updates from local police.

On the 13th, he did another stream showing himself disheveled with torn clothes, claiming to have escaped after being beaten by his captors. However, the supposedly happy ending raised many eyebrows, leading to an investigation.

It was reported by the Criminal Bureau and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Chen’s family made no inquiries into his supposed disappearance. Chen was ultimately detained by Cambodian police on suspicion of inciting discrimination, making false statements, and wasting public resources.

Following his arrest, Chen’s Facebook page went inactive, as authorities asked the public to come forward with any more information they may have.

This is not the first time Chen has allegedly faced legal issues — he previously had lawsuits filed after breaking into buildings and claiming they were the sites of murders and hauntings.

The greater implication to this is that we should be careful of what to believe when we see a news or a video.

While not everyone of them will go all out to fake, some will just do selective editing and reporting to sell what is the most sensational for viewership..

Practice some critical thinking and reasoning before assuming any news out there is real.
