I lived in Glasgow 22 years ago.  This photo looks familiar to me and I went to dig in my opld archive. Stirling castle. I liked that spot by the side of the castle wall and that old tree.

I had a Historic Scotland membership that allows me free entry to all the castles in Scotland. So I went Edinburgh castle, St Andrew cathedral, Stirling castle etc.

The dull cloudy weather in most of your photos are so representative of Scotland weather in general. I like to visit the islands.

i stayed there for close to a year as well....up in Aberdeen. Very dull, but I love the drive from Aberdeen to the Inverness and the rest of Scotland...gonna plan....i prefer scot than London area actually...

I have read many horror stories about the rail in uk before leaving so I limited myself to 3 train trips. I mean what are the chances right? Manchester to Glasgow train was delayed by 15mins. 2nd train Edinburgh to London… big cities, how bad the connection can be? The 4 hour train ride took 8 hours. Serious, I was stuck in the train for 8 hours and it did not even make the news in uk. The people in uk are so used to crappy trains it is kind of sad. 
 

3rd train London to Manchester arrived on time.

Germany and the Netherlands are in similar situations, but UK is, by far, the worst.

If doing distance now, I stick with FlixBus or MegaBus type other such like we have between here and KL etc. Much more reliable, cheaper, less space but at least something to count on. I had a train cancelled from Dusseldorf to Amsterdam, advised like 1hr before leaving the hotel. Jumped on my laptop and had a FlixBus ticket with one change arriving in Rotterdam (my final stop anyway). Was cheaper and got me to Rotterdam earlier than I would have arrived, just with a bit more walking and less comfort.

Flixbus is cheap...i used to travel from The Hague to Rotterdam and Brussels on Flixbus....cheap and fast..

Encountered train delays but not as bad as what you guys encountered, only once had a major delay due to a freak snowstorm that hit Amsterdam...

other that that, it was pretty ok with train rides...maybe I know how to move about with buses and trams in the Neatherlands and UK as well....i will find the cheapest travel route and walk a lot.....Taxi is a big no no...unless is business...

Oh? Why don't drive? Manchester to Glasgow is very manageable leh... I drove from Edinburgh to London before...

Eh... it's different now due to the cost of living crisis... and they never really recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic... everything's quite messy in Europe and UK now... that's also why I didn't plan to go there immediately after the pandemic... I thought Japan would be more orderly after the mess... I think places like Malaysia, Thailand, even Cambodia recovered in a more orderly fashion despite bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis...

We dislike picking up the car at the airport after a long flight. We usually pick up car from the city.

i see...so lucky for me, it was pretty good at that time, and I managed to tour europe......once in a lifetime experience...
