I have a 6.5-year-old Qashqai J11 with a 1.2 DTG engine, and I'm dealing with a persistent DTC code P0597(13) indicating an open circuit in the thermostat heater control system. I've used an OBDII Bluetooth device to scan and manually reset the engine light, but it returns after 3 to 4 days. The car seems to be driving fine, and there's an added benefit of improved cooling from the air conditioning. I have a few questions:

Is it safe to continue driving with this issue?

How much does Tang Chong charge for replacing the thermostat housing?

Can you recommend a workshop for this replacement, and what's the estimated cost?

Thank you for your guidance.

Thermostat in general is cheap. Is the installation that cost alot.

but must change lah, thermostat regulate the temperature by allowing coolant to cool down the engine.

is the car still under warranty? If you are thinking of going to tan chong, don't look at the price, cuz there is no tan chong 2 in SG liao. Only one tan chong.

If the aircon heater is not working, you can continue to drive the car. In the cold weather country might be a problem  but not here in a tropical climate. The problem  will be you will lose the climate control, your aircon will blow the coldest air without having hot air to mix to provide you with the desire temperature you set.

I thot in hot hot SG cold cold Aircon is ok?

In cool European summer they just need a bit of cool Aircon and not full blast cold air or they freeze to death?

My car radiator thermostat is gone case.

So my mechanic just link the fan to my Aircon blower.

Aircon off radiator fan not moving.

Fan speed 1 slow fan

Fan 2 faster, fan 3 super fast.

The hotter the day the more Aircon you need right?

Radiator is the same.

Don't fix.

Air con too cold just open the window.

Too hot again just close window!

:D

Anyway fan speed working right?

Just use lower fan speed and blast the cool air to the back.

The kids complaining hot hot will be a thing of the past.

It is the engine coolant thermostat. Uplorry liao.

P0597 Code: Thermostat Heater Control Circuit / Open

The thermostat is the valve that helps regulate the engine’s temperature. It ensures the engine gets hot enough to do its job without running the risk of overheating by controlling the flow of coolant fluid to the radiator for waste heat disposal.

While older engines use mechanical means to adjust their thermostats, newer designs use electronic thermostats directed by the powertrain control module (PCM) for greater efficiency.

If you want to push your luck and wait until CNY when many car workshops will be closed, I mean I cant stop you from feeling lucky.

If you scared expensive then search for local Nissan stockist and BYO thermostat. Get ready your e-logcard and show them the engine/chassis number. I dunno, this is what they will ask for to get the correct spare parts for your car.

Also, has anyone here done a grid heater delete on a 6.7 Cummins? Looking for some insight on that as well.

Thank you for your guidance.

You should be fine driving for now, but definitely get it fixed soon to avoid bigger issues. Tang Chong can be pricey, so maybe check a few other local shops. A thermostat housing replacement could run you around $150–$300 depending on where you go.
