Logically, nobody is ready for a surge in demand.

@inlinesix

Worked in IT industry for past 22 yrs, now in Banking IT industry.

Logically, only poorly managed IT systems is not ready for a surge.

Imagine If the banking system, apps cannot meet the surge in demand during peak timing!

My bosses will tell me to go fly kite if I tell them logically nobody is ready for a surge in demand. 😁

Your surge in demand is within expectation.

If you can't meet expectation, of course bye bye.

On the other hand, surge in demand for simplygo is one-off event.

Do you prepare for one-off event?

I expect they have some buffer.  These buffer may or may not be enough.

Yes, bank IT systems is defintely prepared for one-off, two off or multiple off event.

Heavy traffic can be load balance across Data Centre in SG and other countries like India, Hong Kong, Japan.

This is what I call a well managed IT systems.

You are riding on resources of other jurisdictions.  No addition cost is required.

On the other hand, for a stand-alone system, do you prepare one-off event?

@inlinesix

Yes, even for stand-alone system, redundancy in place and catered for one-off event.

That's why i said

"I expect they have some buffer.  These buffer may or may not be enough."

There is a balance btw cost and capability.

Even before the announcement that presumably caused a spike, the app wasn't reliable based on my own experience. Stopped using EZLink for a long time, and just SimplyGo with CC. With the added traffic it can only become worse.

Can they come out with a table with all the cards, what can what cannot

I think easy way is to download either SimplyGo or Ezlink app, if neither of the apps is able to register the card that's probably the old card.

When adding a card there should be a 16 digit CAN number you can manually enter if it isnt able to detect by putting the card near your phone to scan (NFC). If it doesnt register or shows an error message then better go replace it.

I need the table because I don’t know got what card

Simi a card b card. How it looks like. How to know which one is my card.

which card can use where

where to get refunds for old card

why old card cannot use. why must use new card. is it like Edmw say old card want to charge 30c per top up so on top people fed up?

which card got show transaction. Why cannot transaction. Can use app to see transaction? Difficult to log into app?

before saying things better have all the information in table for people to see

I have no issue using EZLink in IOS.

EZLink is used to top-up mostly.

The person i replied to has problem with SimplyGo.

It is bad example.  ERP has a predictable pattern.  The surge can be managed.

The capability can be increased easily based on the pattern.

That's why i said "There is a balance btw cost and capability."

There is a limit on how much you can spend.

EZLink is only for EZLink top-up, quite basic. SimplyGo is to track your trips / transactions, so every time you tap with your CC, it shows in the app. The gantry won't show anything, just "Bank Card / SimplyGo". From commuter's point of view, it's additional steps just to see the fare, something which the gantry used to display directly. Your CC bill will only show a lump sum per day or so, and you can't dispute if the reader is broken.

As compared to EZLink, CC opens the gantry much faster.

To me, not showing the deduction or balance is fine as i want to clear the gantry FAST.

For those who are not familiar. I show you the EZlink app I'm using. Step by step.

Download the EZlink app

Go to "Add Card"

It will prompt you to scan card. Place card near the underside and top part of your phone. Tap on "Start Scanning".

If your card cannot be scanned. Tap on the manual CAN ID setup, circled in red. CAN ID (16 digit) is etched on the back of your card.

If you are successful you will be able to see your card appear like below(the app is also a wallet to hold multiple transport cards). For me, I kiasu have 3 cards. You may add your family members cards too like your children and elderly and top up for them. See "My Family" tab below.

Select or tap on your card to see transaction history or do a top up using the function seen below.

You may do the top up anywhere that has a stable internet connection. Wifi/5G/4G network.

Topping up is using local bank CC accounts like DBS, OCBC and UOB. You will have to do this setup before you can top up your card.

I find the EZlink app easier to use. The SimplyGo app I find it not user friendly.

If you have the newer cards like me you dont need to go to any machine and just top up using your smartphone. Once everything is setup the steps to top up the card is the same as adding card by placing the card near to your phone. It will prompt you on what to do anyway.
