Went to Cameron Highlands to my in law place for a short holiday. After countdown decide to head back home. Halfway down hill from Ringlet suddenly my Toyota Prius suddenly shows ABS warning, Low braking power warning and brake malfunction bypass warning. Scare the hell out of me as it was dark and steep and narrow and the brake booster pump fails. Have to step very hard and still the hydraulic system still ok. Manage to find a clearing and stop by the side. No phone signal so can't get help so no choice uturn and  climb back up to my mother in law house.

Managed to arrange tow truck from Ipoh to come in the morning to tow back to JB then JB back to Singapore.

Total cost RM1900 from Cameron Highlands to Johor and SGD 250 from Johor to Singapore.

Lucky only 2 of us so can tong pang tow truck home. IMG-20240101-WA0005.thumb.jpeg.d24ed2cc799311a9d4b15be3eb781c84.jpegIMG-20240101-WA0003.thumb.jpeg.457faf721e4b7c1dff1636f7a471e982.jpeg

What a start to the year. The positive side get its repair so for the rest of 2024 same mechanical issue won't coup up again. Also at rate 3.4 won't be that much of pinch.

Be positive.

Assuming you use the B gear, that's for engine brakes ...

I always use this (Axio hybrid) to control descend down ECP bridge to Rochor, no brakes needed. [:p]

Hi guys. My car break down in Cameron Highlands. Towing back to Singapore. From Cameron Highlands to Johor RM1900 Johor to Singapore SGD250. Reasonable? 🤔

Under the circumstances and you are able to tongpang a ride for 2 pax all the way from there back to Singapore, I would consider it reasonable.

Small money out to bait big money.

Safe journey and have a Healthy 2024.

Cheers

If your in law is there why didn't arrange for repairs there (and fly back if urgent)?

I would say the prices are ok.

Most important is to be safe. ...with the car back safely as well.  Money is secondary in such circumstances.

Paid already, move on, it is important that everyone is safe. Looks like you have over used the brake pad. I am not sure your prius can use engine brake?  Shift to lower gear to use engine brake to reduce overheating of your brake system on both pads and discs .

If it is a brake over heating , you should be able to use it again when the system goes back to normal temperature,  did you try it? Or the error stays ?

Did you just compare going downhill from Cameron to Rochor exit?

They are both downslopes but they are not the same thing

I can tell you many younger driver do not know how to use engine brake. To them is only accelerator pedal and brake pedal.

Unlike us older driver that previously driving manual car, we already learn to use a lot of engine braking even before stopping at traffic light. That is how we learn our driving.

Use gear 1 when go down

if u find it too slow never mind

cos gear 2 engine brake might be too fast for downhill

I alternate between 2 and 3, 2 for steep slope assisted with brake, small gradient use 3 without brake unless approaching corner.

My Axio hybrid has a B gear - Brake gear.

Prius has the same B gear.

It is used as engine brake.

There's no gear L1, 1 or 2 in the Prius.
