Battery degradation of more than 10% will happen after 160k km. Most manufacturers will have a 10% buffer for this degradation. As users, you might not feel the difference of 10%. The bigger problem comes from an accident or something hit the car undercarriage. let me illustrate my point: lets say the EV has 8 battery modules/cells, during the annual servicing at 7yrs into ownership, the AD tested that the battery degradation status is as such: 1) 91% 2) 86% 3) 93% 4) 82% 5) 91% 6) 90% 7) 91% 😎 92% So based on manufacturer's SOP, the AD proceed to go ahead to swap out # 2 and #4. then the car is sold to another buyer right after the cells swap. in the next 3 years of of the remaining COE, the rest of the unreplaced 6 cells continue with the natural degradation to start dipping below 90% or even 80%. the new owner has to come up with cash to replace these failing cells. 2

Alfc 5th Gear December 26, 2023 Share December 26, 2023 If EVs are viewed more similar to electrical appliances and even mobile phones, then the expectation in terms of degeneration and resale value should be similar too. Will one buy a used TV or handphone, and how much discount will entice one to bite.

I think AD will replace under warranty if degradation is 30% or more. As owner, you will not feel the difference if the battery degrades to 90%. Unless next owner want to extend, i don't see the point of cell replacement at the end of 7 year.

Beregond Supersonic December 26, 2023 Share December 26, 2023 Rather then no 1 want used EV. It's more like new EV from China is too cheap or competitive in price etc. Those dealer got no money to make selling a high price used ( esp conti make EV) Not no 1 want a used EV. the price is not right only😅 2

I think is more like manufacturer's SOP for the ADs. My car, engine error code flashed, return to AD, AD say is one of the 4 spark plug gone, need to replace under warranty. For my car, the next servicing was a major one, which was only 2000km away, and that included changing all 4 spark plugs, so I asked the Service Advisor why not just change all 4 spark plugs in one shot, save the labour. The SA said no can do, must follow the manufacturer schedule and SOP. 🙄

With the kind of mileage, very hard to sell (even for ICE car). End up being tampered odo.
