Heartlander Turbocharged January 30 Share January 30 (edited) There is this article that shared that values of used EVs nosed dives after 2 years. Someone should do similar study over here to give us some idea of our situation. But what can be sure is that when the day of solid state batteries is here, that is when we will see the values of used EVs nosed dive. Those with ICE cars that can last another few years better consider carefully. https://evcentral.com.au/electric-vehicle-price-plummet-new-research-shows-values-of-used-teslas-mgs-byds-nose-diving-in-australia-as-bargains-abound/ Edited January 30 by Heartlander
steveting99 1st Gear January 30 Share January 30 (edited) New study released in Nature Energy looking at 300 million records and 30 million vehicles from 2005 to 2022 showed that longevity of EVs are comparable to ICE vehicles. Article from carscoops is here: EVs now last 18 years, matching ICE cars in lifespan, large study finds. Reliability of EVs are simply getting better as time goes on. An extended study to include data from 2022 to 2024 would most likely swing the lifespan and travel distance number in favour of EVs over ICE. A lot of these buyers never really look into charging before buying And they are one unique country that has good mix of city and long distance driving. When come to long distance driving, ICE still has an convenience edge over EV.

Poorsoul 1st Gear January 30 Share January 30 @Heartlander The thing about solid-state batteries is: 1. They’re likely still several years away from being available in EVs. 2. Even when they do arrive, they’ll probably be expensive and limited to high-end models. 3. If, by some miracle, solid-state batteries become widely available at a low price, I’d agree that demand for current (non-solid-state) EVs would nosedive. But so would demand for ICE cars, since solid-state tech would eliminate major barriers like range anxiety and charging concerns, people will be more willing to opt for EV with solid state battery instead of ICE cars... So, my humble opinion is that if you can afford it, just buy what you like and don’t overthink resale value. 6

I still curious if their EV really that good or their sales too aggressive which offered attractive pricing and buyers ended up buy first say later.
