1 person injured after GetGo car 'accidentally' reversed into Bukit Panjang car park lot with door open

SINGAPORE — One person was injured after a GetGo car-sharing vehicle “accidentally” reversed into a parking lot in Bukit Panjang while the car’s driver-side door was still open.

Responding to TODAY’s queries on Monday (Dec 18), GetGo said that it was alerted to the incident when the driver involved contacted it via its hotline last Saturday.

“The user involved accidentally reversed the vehicle while the door was open... We are actively working with the user involved and providing the support needed to resolve this incident,” GetGo said, declining to reveal who the driver was.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it received a call for assistance at Block 259A Bangkit Road at about 12.20pm on Dec 16.

One person was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, it added.

In a video published on the Facebook page Tiagong on Dec 17, the damaged right front door of the Hyundai car could be seen twisted at an acute angle, after the driver seemingly tried to reverse-park next to a car-park ramp.

Another photo of the incident showed that the car door had hit a low barrier with high visibility markings adjacent to the ramp. Parts of the barrier also appeared to be damaged.

At the end of the video, a man wearing a face mask could be seen sitting on the ground next to the vehicle and appeared to be dazed. It was unclear from the footage if he was injured.

A woman was filmed rendering assistance to the seated man.

My sister did to my dad's car when she 1st started working. it was a tree in that case. 

she stopped driving after that.

my sister did the same to the family car. every family car that she touch will have her battle damage. and guess which brother of hers has to bring the car to be fixed. 🙄

Getgo will resolve the incident by sending a huge bill to the renter

How it happen? My guess is that the door was kept open so that the driver could poke his head out to see the rear, but then accidentally reversed too fast when he or she stepped on accel? Many drivers underestimate the torque of the rev gear. If it's an auto car, just engage the rev, let the car move by itself and just control the braking. Never press accel unless reversing up slope or going over a bump
