I think it is pressure from investors to have more returns.  Microsoft is one of OpenAI's biggest investors having invested billions.

https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/11/21/microsoft-10-billion-openai-great-news-stock/#:~:text=It wasn't the first,is the team of founders.

There are 12 of these investors according to the above link.

The founders must have founded the AI company to help humanity rather than make tons of money. Or at least that's their main goal. I think a lot of founders of other startup companies also had different goals compared with their investors and often found themselves ousted by the company they had founded. All because of money issues. The returns are less than what investors expected.

Money is the root of all evil but without money, there will be much less innovations.

Really interested to see how greed won't kill off this altruistic endeavors and how a non profit for humanity tech business can work and compete in a world driven by monetary incentives.

Gene Roddenberry will be pleased if it did. 😂

I can only think of wikipedia. But it will eventually be only used to feed AI search bots.

That is true. Never thought of Wiki as a successful tech business.

But monetary potential of AI is much much greater than Wiki.  Imagine a world whereby we don't need to work or work just for fun (according to Elon Musk).

I think you watch too much Star Trek already.

In the Star Trek world, work is purely voluntary, since there is no money to pay wages or generate a return on investment. Everyone has the basics, ordering what you need is as easy as telling a replicator, “Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.”

With self learning, ability to digest and process information much faster than humans and with no limit to its lifespan, it is theoretically possible for AI to become smarter than human beings at some point in time.

Jialat, most of us will be jobless. 😂

AI was used to "purify" John Lennon's voice, coz the original recording was very poor.

  Quote

Artificial Intelligence in Music Production

AI’s role in music production is a growing trend, with producers and artists using technology to create new works from existing recordings, even posthumously. In the case of “Now And Then,” AI was used to purify Lennon’s voice from the demo. Despite rumors, surviving Beatles members Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney clarified that the AI did not replicate Lennon’s voice, but rather, it was used to extract it from the original recording.
