Doctor jailed, fined for drink driving and going against flow of traffic in Sentosa carpark

Quote

DPP Lim noted that even though Tan has no criminal record, he had three previous compounded traffic offences, including beating a red light, speeding and inconsiderate driving.

“This shows something of a lackadaisical attitude towards strict compliance with traffic rules. An uplift is justified to specifically deter the accused,” said DPP Lim in his written submissions.

The body of a Singaporean driver was recovered amid a car fire near a petrochemical plant in Jalan Pekeliling Industrial Park in Johor on Monday morning (23 October).

Shin Min Daily News reported that the Malaysia police confirmed that the deceased driver was a 62-year-old Singaporean man.

10 firefighters deployed to the scene

Malaysian newspaper The Star reported that the Johor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received an emergency call around 11.13am on Monday.

Sarhan Akmal Mohamad, acting chief of the Pasir Gudang fire station, said 10 firemen were deployed to the scene.

The Star reported Sarhan as saying that the victim is believed to have skidded his vehicle, colliding with a tree before bursting into flames, leaving the driver trapped in the blazing car.

The station chief also stated that the firefighters used rescue tools to remove the victim's body and encountered challenges in identifying the victim's gender because the identification documents were burnt in the incident.

Investigations into the incident are underway.
