Cheap...is it Full Synthetic Oil.?

Unlikely semi-syn can fulfill its strict requirement.

It is likely a blend of Group III and IV oil

mercedes didn't states that in the spec

I use this because 229.51 is a low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus, and Sulphur) oil

my car is UK spec that came with gasoline particulate filters (GPF) that call for low SAPS engine oil

gasoline particulate filters (GPF) function is same like diesel particulate filter (DPF) that commonly found on diesel engine

In general, I think can use ACEA-C3 & C4 oil.

Due to HTHS requirement, you can't use thinner oil.

I don't want to know too much about engine oils

I'll keep it simple and stupid by following the recommendations 😁

If you change often yourselves no need to use super-ex or super-branded oil.

Better for engine if you change just-good-enough oil more frequently.

Actually I noticed that workshops I go don't bother to change the copper washer. But never leak

They used brute strength to tighten. Then threads get worn faster. They will tell you it’s ok one. And if a problem happens the typically dunno why ley.

Wear a decent headlamp. Makes the job so much easier. But the old body still have to contort to change. Japanese design much better. Just open the glove box and be done.
Aircon filter is to prevent the coil from clogging. Not so much about filtering the air. Filter what air. Open the door and half the air in the car gets exchanged with outside air.

to test air exchange you can fart in the car open the door to exit and then go back in to smell if the “scent” still lingers…. 😂

I drained the wrong spec oil and replaced it with the correct MB229.51 oil

now merc don't give you dipstick anymore

last time my W204 can suck the oil out from the dipstick tube, much easier comparing to this car where you need to drain the oil in old fashion way

and they cover the entire underside of the engine compartment

I spent almost half an hour lying on the floor just to remove the cover

hello drain bolt 😘

old drain bolt + old washer vs new drain bolt + new washer

you can see the old washer is compressed until it formed a lip around the circumference

new washer is flat on both sides

torque it to 40Nm

fill up the engine, reset the service reminder, start the engine to warm up the oil and check for leaks and oil level

I am happy with the oil level

oh yes

the 5L engine oil that I bought only has 4.7L inside

so don't rely on it when you fill your engine oil

I always measure the oil capacity using a jug before pouring into the engine

it's quite normal actually

that is why over the years I learnt not to trust the capacity on the label

although I never encounter one that has more than 100%

maybe I suay 😁
