This is not an April Fool joke! Let see how this full size MPV will fare against the Lexus LM and Mercedes EQV.

What started off as a wild rumor at the beginning of the year will become a reality in a matter of months. Yes, Volvo is preparing to launch its first-ever MPV, which it describes as being a "Scandinavian living room on the move." Known as the EM90, the Swedish family hauler "creates room for your life" and will break cover on November 12 when the order books will open in China, the home of parent company Geely.

Instead of a product direct from the R&D centre of the Swedish brand, the EM90 is likely to be based on the Zeekr 009, a wild-looking minivan from one of Geely's many brands.

@Carbon82 it might even be just a rebrand .

Volvo To Rebadge The Zeekr 009 And Use Marketing To Convince You It’s A Real Volvo

Rarely, if ever, has a corporate entity employed a maxim as ambitious as when Pinocchio endeavoured to persuade himself of his humanity, that he is a real boy, while confined to his wooden form. This parallel finds resonance in the present day as Volvo adopts a similar tragic strategy to persuade the public that the Zeekr 009 is not just an automobile but a genuine embodiment of Volvo’s essence. The Zeekr 009 is is an all-electric minivan made by Volvo’s quartermasters Geely.

Zeekr forms part of Geely’s portfolio of premium luxury automotive brands. The Zeekr 009 is a pure electric minivan built for the Chinese market and will be repurposed and sold in Europe under Geely’s Volvo brand. That is to say, the Zeekr 009 will be rebranded in Europe as the Volvo EM90

Developing a new platform cost lots of money. So no surprises it’s a rebadge. Looking at the popularity of some EVs in China. These new EVs are actually quite decent. Sat in BYD Han many times as it is used a DiDi. Found it quite ok.

Quite surprised to read that the design actually originated from Gothenburg, Sweden, under the guidance of ex-Audi designer Stefan Sielaff.

@Lethalstrike given the pricing of Volvos in Singapore, even if it is available here, the price would easily be around that of a S Class, if not more.

If S-Class price they can go fly kite already lah. Who will spend $600k for a Volvo? 🤣

Logically, it should be price parity with the EX90 SUV, in my opinion.

Each car that goes on sale in China must get the stamp of approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. As part of a future model's homologation process, images are published on the MIIT website before the market launch. In some situations, the vehicle's design is shown weeks ahead of the actual debut. Such is the case with the EM90, Volvo's very first minivan, featured in a couple of images showing the exterior in full.

According to the information published on the MIIT website, the 2024 Volvo EM90 is 5,206 millimeters long, 2,024 mm wide, and 1,859 mm tall. The wheelbase matches that of the Zeekr 009 (which it is based on) measuring 3,205 mm between the front and rear axles. It's going to be offered with 19- and 20-inch wheels for a six-seat electric family hauler that will tip the scales at a hefty 2,763 kilograms.

While the battery isn't mentioned, the Zeekr 009 has a lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt pack from CATL. The 140-kWh battery is good for 822 kilometers based on the local China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). There's also a smaller 116-kWh pack with 702 km.

The EM90 will be officially revealed on November 12 when preorders will start in China where the minivan touted as a "Scandinavian living room on the move" is going to be manufactured.

Can really feel how luxurious Volvo first full electric MPV is. The attention to details is commendable. This and the 2nd generation Lexus LM will be tough opponents for Mercedes V-Class.

As a fully electric car, the EM90 provides a range of up to 738 kilometres under the CLTC testing cycle. The car comes with a 116 kWh battery and the charging time from 10 to 80 per cent is expected to be under 30 minutes. Powered by an e-motor with 200kW power output, the EM90 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.

In terms of safety features, the EM90 is equipped with Volvo's safe space technology and designed to help protect everyone in and around the car. It is backed by Volvo's 96 years of safety DNA and extensive knowledge based on real-world accident research into a new segment. The broad suite of advanced driver assistance systems inside the EM90 is enabled by advanced computing power and an all-round sensor set with high-definition cameras, surround view cameras, a millimetre wave radar and ultrasonic radars.

The EM90 is not just a Scandinavian living room on the move, it is also your private mobile concert hall. A total of 21 speakers from Bowers & Wilkins are beautifully integrated around the cabin and built into the headrests of the front-row seats, to deliver high-fidelity audio with 3D sound, and create the ultimate sound experience inside the EM90, supported by 2,460W of power.

Anyone noticed why I did not say this is Volvo's first MPV? Because it is not. Volvo PV445 Duett, which debut in 1953 (exactly 70 years ago), was the first. And not forgetting the 2, 7, 9 series as well as V70 estate...

Wowo S60 already more expensive than my MIFA 9 and with this EM 90, should be more than $300k.

Way above my budget. :TT_TT:
