Now I know why so many owners sell me their W212

when its reaching the 200,000k mark.

W124 never had this kinds of issues even at 500,000k mark.

Those were build to last forever.

:D

Sounds like all the w212 will breakdown at 200k km. 🤣 i will let you know the moment i decide to let go. 😄

But i am hoping to keep it till end of COE so that i can enjoy "parfless " loss when i renew its coe for the 2nd time

compression test is actually very quick. just remove spark plug and disable fuel pump and crank. viola done. but lazy ass SG workshops use eye power and just quote.

I have one of these

if want to use eyepower, poke a borescope/endoscope into the cylinder to take a look lah

Still need to remove plugs. Too much work for some workshops! 😂

Which one did you buy. There is now a triple lens type. Front and left right with light.

I bought it from Amazon

mine is dual lens type, one forward facing main lens and one close up side lens

very useful, can use it to check all the inaccessible nooks and crannies area of the car and engine, peep neighbours, DIY colonoscopy (if you dare) 😁

Yes, this is great for checking cylinder wall/intake valves condition without opening the durian.

Again, some lazy workshops will just quote you top overhaul without detailed justification.

That’s why Mercedes didn’t make that much money. So now must make it spoil, then can earn more from parts.

Not really.. it has to do with the new fangle term ESG or carbon neutral

tgats the kind of things they put in your ride with the intend to convince the buyer they are green

of course the merc e class comes to mind with the melting wire harness for using recyclable bio degradable plastic

and the best part is all this scope can buy from taopao

but why go to the extend of all the trouble , when you can just carrot the owner ?

Finally i got back my car today after 9 days in the workshop. Spoke to the mechanic, it was piston 4 that was knocking against the wall. He said pressure test may not show the problem because the ring was not exactly bad.

The 4 pistons and rings set were replaced. NnLo boring , or honing of the cylinder block. The repair comes with 3 years written warranty.

Damage ? $5.5k. Expensive? I guess if looking at hardware alone, it is expensive, but they spent  days to diagnose and fix the problem, the money went to their expertise and service. Key is they were willing to open the engine and they found the problem unlike the other three.

Along the way the found the brake vacuum pump to have some leak and had it replaced, plus a few other wear and tear items which is not part of the 5.5k.

I am happy with the repair overall. Hope the car would live up to  expectation, otherwise i may have to change car , hopefully not during this high COE period.

Biggest issue I see in this picture is the typical everything do on the floor Malaysian mechanic style repair. Never bother to get an engine stand and do properly or a table or rack to store parts.
you get the typical refrain…. 可以的🙄

@Ct3833

i am wondering if the workshop uses torque wrench while assembling the engine. Its of paramount importance that  they use one.

Don’t scare him la. Almost all I see when doing engine work they use it. Especially the engine block bolts.
some tire shops wayang use of torque wrench. Use impact gun to tighten then use torque wrench. The impact gun already fully and over tighten. Using the torque wrench is just wayang.
this is the state of shitty uneducated mechanics in SG. I avoid these.
