Locknload 5th Gear March 3, 2024 Author Share March 3, 2024 ManU 1 (Rashford) - ManC 3 (EPL - Away) Into the 8th minute, just 3 moves from Onana's long punt to Bruno, who found Rashford to blast the ball into the net gave us confidence and many attacks on the counter, with Rashford missing two great chances. The 12 corners in the first half showed the intent of ManC, with Haaland's blunder in front of an open goal towards the end of the first half and good saves from the vastly improved Onana kept our lead secure. A good long-range rocket shot from Foden levelled the score in the 55th minute and the experienced Evans was replaced by the 19 year old Kambwala to shore up the defence. The change for Rashford, being our most potential goal getter, by Antony in the 75th minute surprised many fans . Another goal by Foden in the 80th minute gave ManC the goal the lead, followed by Haaland's goal in the 90th mimute after Amrabat gave the ball away, put the game to bed. No surprise that ManC, being the best team in the world, was in control throughout and way much the superior team. kept in check by Lindelof and Varane
Locknload 5th Gear March 9, 2024 Author Share March 9, 2024 ManU 2 (Bruno-pen / Rashford-pen) - Everton 0 (EPL - Home) With Varane, Lindelof, Dalot and Evans in defence, Rashford, who stood in for the unjured Hojlund, was supported by Bruno, Mctominay and Ganarcho with Casemiro and Mainoo controlling rhe midfield. A penalty was awardrd when Ganarcho was fouled in the 12th minute which Bruno converted. Another foul on Ganarcho was converted this time by Rashford in the 36th minute, for a two goal lead at half time. Not much in terms of quality or attacking flair in the second half, with Casemiro being the main culprit in giving the ball away many times when we were in attack mode and Lindelof giving away fouls in our defensive areas, for which he received a yellow card. A substitution for Mainoo for Amrabat in the 78th minute, followed by Antony for Ganarcho in the 82nd minute and then Kambwala for Evans the remaining five minutes of play to secure this win.
Locknload 5th Gear March 17, 2024 Author Share March 17, 2024 ManU 4 (Mctominay / Antony / Rashford / Amad) - Liverpool 3 (FA Cup - Home) With Hojlund back from injury, his pass to Mctominay, who scored early in the 10th minute gave us hope in winning this crucial League Cup game, provide ETH a lifeline and a hope of getting some sliverware. A goal from Liverpool was chalked off for offside against Mo Salah as we were playing a high line but they levelled the score in the 42nd minute and Salah made it 2-1 at half time. With Rashford looking jaded and Bruno not effective as a linkman, the midfield allowed Liverpool to slice through the middle and provide incisive passes to Salah and Nunez. Both Hojlund and AWB were replaced by Antony and Maguire in the 71st minute, followed by Eriksen for the hardworking Mainoo in the 80th minute and Amad for Varane in the 85th minute to get something out of this game. A goal by Antony in the 87th minute provided a hope but Rashford missed a gilt-edged opportunity and forced the game into extra-time. A long range goal by Liverpool caught Onana out at the end of the first half of extra time but Rashford levelled the score at 3-3 in the second half and Amad put the icing on the cake with a counter-strike in the dying minutes of extra time but will miss the quarter finals for taking his shirt off after being yellow-carded for the second time. As with any new management team, it will be no surprise that they will want their own man under Ratcliffe, only a matter of time or at the end of the season for ETH to go. Locknload 5th Gear April 7, 2024 Author Share April 7, 2024 ManU 2 (Bruno / Mainoo) - Liverpool 2 (EPL - Home) The defence had AWB, Maguire, Kambwala and Dalot with Casemiro and Mainoo in midfield and Ganarcho, Bruno, Rashford supporting Hojlund in front. A goal from Ganarcho in the first minute was ruled offside but Pool dominated and made it 1-0 in the 23rd minute, when the unmarked Luis Diaz scored off a corner. The highline employed by us did not provide us any advantage as Pool also had a defensive highline as was noted in Ganarcho's attempt. Both Bruno made misplaced passes, and Hojlund not aware of positional play when passes were made to him and saw very little of the ball. The anger that ETH talked about, after the loss to Chelsea, had not translated into hunger. Out of the blue, Bruno brilliantly capitalised on a defensive back-pass error and lobbed the ball over the oncoming keeper to level the score in the 50th minute. Game on! A substitute for the injured Rashford for the much-improved Antony in the 66th minute added inpetus into our attack and it paid dividends a minute later when Mainoo unleased a curler from the left into the right corner of the net to take the lead. A change for Ganarcho for Amrabat to defend the lead but a penalty was awarded when AWD took down a defender and Mo Salah converted to level the score in the 84th minute. Another change later for Mainoo for Mount. Both teams shared the spoils in an exciting match.
Locknload 5th Gear April 13, 2024 Author Share April 13, 2024 ManU 2 (Bruno x 2 - pen) - Bournemouth 2 (EPL - Away) With the same players in the previous match, it was Bournemouth on the front-foot and the more agressive team and they scored off a mistake in the 15th minute, when Ganarcho gave the ball away, coupled with Kambwala losing his footing and allowing Solanke to shoot past Onana who could have saved the shot and seemed shaky in punting the ball aimlessly forward or out of play. It was Bruno who levelled the score in the 30th minute from Ganarcho's cutback. Another goal from Bournemouth 5 minutes later when our defence were caught napping, with Onana making a point-blank save and Bruno hitting the bar, in the closing minutes of the first half. A substitution for Ganarcho by Amad at the start of the second half but it was still Bournemouth on the attack, till the 65th minute when Bruno converted a penalty for handball. Another change for the off-form Mainoo with Mount in the 78th minute did not turn-up the tempo, with Bournemouth having more of possession and were denied a penalty when VAR decided that a foul was committed outside the box to award a free-kick instead. With ETH openly stating that he needs another striker to change the fortunes of both ManU and his, reflects the form of Hojlund in stark contrast and compared to Brounemouth's striker, Solanke. Locknload 5th Gear May 6, 2024 Author Share May 6, 2024 ManU 0 - Crystal Palace 4 (EPL - Away) With recent injuries to Bruno, Rashford and Maguire, it was AWB, Casemiro, Evans and Dalot in defence, Mainoo and Eriksen in midfield and Hojlund in front supported by Mount, Ganarcho and Antony. A defensive error from Casemiro gave Palace the lead in the 12th minute. An effort by Hojlund was disallowed due to his push on their goalie and another error by Evans allowed Palace to go 2-up in the 39th minute. No hold on the game and with Mainoo going casual and complacent and Mount not seeing the ball much, a change of players and tactics has to be employed for the second half. A goal by Casemiro was ruled offside at the commencement of the second half but it was 3-0 when Palace scored off a short-corner in the 60th minute, followed by Amrabat coming for Antony shortly after. Another goal by Palace in the 66th minute effectively put the game to bed and we were completely demolished by a rampant Palace. Substitutions for Mount and Hojlund by Wheatly and Amad in the 80th minute did not provide any impact With no Champions League and doubtful of the FA Cup final against Man City, the deterrioration and shocking display this season and minus-goal difference should be the final nail in the coffin for ETH. Next up this Sunday will be vs table-toppers Arsenal at 11.30pm
Locknload 5th Gear May 12, 2024 Author Share May 12, 2024 ManU 0 - Arsenal 1 (EPL - Home) The 18-21 year-olds in Hojlund, Ganarcho, Amad and Mainoo led the front with Mctominay amd Amrabat in support. The backline comprised AWB, Casemiro, Evans and Dalot. A defensive lapse by Evans who was rounded at the byeline for a cutback, gave Arsenal's Trossard the simplest of tap-in to take the lead in the 21st minute till halftime. A change for the injured Amad for Antony in the 68th minute followed by Kambwala for Evans did not provide the impetus for any chance of a draw. A triple change for Eriksen, Wheatly and Forson for AWB, Amrabat and Hojlund was too little and too late to thwart Arsenal's bid to maintain top position and the EPL title. Locknload 5th Gear May 15, 2024 Author Share May 15, 2024 ManU 3 (Mainoo / Amad / Hojlund) - Newcastle 2 (EPL - Home) With playmaker Bruno back from injury as striker, it was Ganarcho, Mctominay and Amad in support with Mainoo and Amrambat in mid and the same backline as in the previous match. A great relief for ETH when Mainoo found acres of space to slot the ball home in the 31st minute and maintain the lead till half time. The second half had a resurgent Newcastle equalise in the 3rd minute and had some good chances but it was Amad who gave us the lead when he scored off a corner in the 57th minute. A triple substitution for Amad, Mainoo and Ganarcho for Hojlund, Martinez and Rashford in the 82nd provided the impetus for Hojlund's goal shortly after coming on from Bruno's pass, who was replaced by Eriksen after his hamstring acted up. A goal from Newcastle in the 90th minute was a deserved one for their efforts but we were the more deserving team in this encounter.
Locknload 5th Gear May 19, 2024 Author Share May 19, 2024 ManU 2 (Dalot / Hojlund) - Brighton Hove Albion 0 (EPL Final Game - Away) With Amrabat the main liability in giving the ball numerous times and yellow-carded and also Casemiro to a lesser extent, it was Brighton that were more compact with better movements off and on the ball, sleek passing and more of possession. Goaless till halftime, ETH has to make drastic changes to at least be in contention for an Euro Conference League qualification. A double subtitution early in the second half for the injured Martinez and Bruno for Evans and Hojlund, and later in the 68th minute by Varane for the ineffective Amrabat gave some sense of purpose in our attack, with a goal against the run of play by Dalot from Casemiro's long punt in the 73rd minute. It was later followed by another double replacement for Amad and Mainoo by Eriksen and Rashford. The tenth-goal by Hojlund this season effectively sealed the game and should give us confidence for the FA Cup final against ManC.

Locknload 5th Gear May 25, 2024 Author Share May 25, 2024 ManU 2 (Ganarcho / Mainoo - ManC 1 (FA Cup Final - Wembley) With Amrabat combining with Mainoo in midfield instead of the off-form Casemiro, who was not even on the bench, it was Bruno in front supported by Mctominay, Rashford and Ganarcho. The backline quartet comprised AWB, Varane, Martinez and Dalot. An error by ManC goalie Ortega in coming off his line for a defensive backpass was pounced by Gabarcho who rounded off the goalie for a simple tap-in to give us the lead in the 30th minute, while another goal from Rashford was chalked-off for offside but Mainoo made it 2-0 from Bruno's pass 2 minutes later. Great to see us capitalising on ManC's highline with defense-splitting passes both times on the right from Amrabat and Bruno that led to the comfortable margin at the end of the first-half. With ManC making three substitutions early in the second half, it was our gegen-pressing that kept our midfield mainly intact and Onana making good saves when they broke through that resulted in Haaland hitting the post. A double replacement for Martinez and Rashford by Evans and Hojlung in the 73rd mintue but it was ManC's Doku who scored in the 82nd minute to provide some hope for a comeback, which Onana could have saved. Another double sub for Ganarcho and Mctominay by Lindelof and Mason Mount to maintain the lead for the 7 minutes added on, but whether ETH has redeemed himself for a dreadful season remains to be seen.

Jamesc Hypersonic June 13, 2024 Share June 13, 2024 Ten Hag probably stopped contemplating clearing his United desk after Ratcliffe’s beauty parade of Thomas Tuchel, Kieran McKenna (who signed a lucrative new contract with Ipswich), Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Graham Potter, Gary O’Neil, Paulo Fonseca and Gareth Southgate as potential replacements ended with them all judged less handsome than the incumbent.

Expand Haha, a face-saving gesture for both sides as intention was there when they spoke to these few potentials; silverware and 'egg-shaped' good looks notwithstanding. Objectively, to 'achieve' 8th position in the entire season is no doubt an under-performance vs a one-off job-saving Cup match for an appropriate comparison. ↡ Advertisement
