I tried to to top up balance and in the end it was a no go and asked to contact local bank. Since early this year, TNG eWallet has been accepted by over 10 million Alipay merchants in mainland China. Making a QR payment in China is just as easy as making a QR payment in Malaysia. Thailand banks also has to some degree. The other SEA countries have to build base on Alipay's expertise in the above. Hence the backend is all compatible.
