cannot like that say la.... its not his company nor nor job to police others. As known of now, other more qualified people in official regulatory capacity have warned but ignored by the CEO.

if he had said anything back then, he would likely be crucified for being "rich old white guy with no inspiration" by the CEO.

Wendy Rush, wife of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who has been missing in a submersible after embarking on an expedition to see the wreckage of the Titanic, is related to victims of the Titanic sinking, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Wendy Rush is the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Straus, according to The New York Times. The Strauses were first-class passengers, with Isidor being a co-owner of the department store R.H. Macy.

The Strauses died together when the Titanic sank in April 1912. Reports indicate that Isidor Straus was offered a seat, he did not want to leave the ship until all women and children had been removed. Ida Straus was also offered a lifeboat seat while the ship was in peril, but she refused to leave her husband, who was still on the boat.

everyone thinks they are immortal/above the rules/special until they are not.

It's like open sea diving. You can mitigate whatever risk you want. But the deep sea is elemental and never relenting.
It just needs a tiny crack and it will swallow you whole.

Question is was the sub ever built to withstand the pressure? Untested?

this is not it's first trip to the wreck. IIRC at least 17 trips in the last couple of years. But seems most (if not all) have some sort of issue.

but it's unclassed, unregulated and only "legal" in international waters. in other words, ownself chk ownself

It started out as a leisure pursuit for those who got more money than know what to do with it.

If they survive the trip, it’d just be another topic for boasting; money well spent for an elite few.

However, when things go wrong, I just wondering who’s footing the costs of the search and rescue/retrieval.

thrill-seekers and adventurers need an element of risk.

no risk = no thrill, no adventure

only issue is how far along the "risk" scale.

unfortunately society needs this type of people to drive innovation.

blame it on the movie.

Without it there won't be such expedition in the first place.

So what is next? Outer space? Haiz .

in reference to the refugee boat which sank off greece that had an estimated 100+ children on board 😔

There's some suggestion that the greek coast guard just ignored it.

Don’t understand the fascination with the Titanic.  I once stayed at a hotel in Istanbul called Titanic. Posters of it everywhere, tv kept running the Titanic movie over and over 🙄.

This ship didn’t have a good ending; 1500 of it’s passengers ended in a watery grave and yet got people want to have a view of it in the midst of total darkness.

Difference between a risk survivor vs a corpse is that the risk survivor took calculated risk, got do research do homework and did testing, knowing some things are beyond his control. This is the calculated risk. Corpses on the other hand basically used to gamble with all they have. I think the adrenaline junkie's quote says it all. "Safety" is nothing but a word to him.

Ppl might say his recklessness is just a marketing gimmick for his company but his operations officer who blew the whistle on the sub's safety flaw tells ppl otherwise. It should be enough to make ppl stay away but sadly it didnt.

RIP.
