Maybe the parent think far ahead, this is a unique DSA route.

Loads of people take music grade exam, ballet grade exam, swimming, etc. etc.

But very very few got teochew opera [laugh]

Very very few?

Seriously I don't even think teochew opera can be a DSA option in school,  Chinese dance and Chinese orchestra maybe but not anything in dialect. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Turbocharged

This kind is a child prodigy.

It is a calling.

Just like some grandmasters who learn chess at 4 or 5 and by the time they were 7,  they already beat the crap out of most adults.

I thought Teochew will have the word "nee" in almost everything? My MIL is a one language person so I am like whatever also "nee" can liao except tua liap nee. Even their fav dessert Orh Nee is also "nee".

My kids stayed with my MIL when they were younger, none of them picked up anything. They struggled with Chinese so can forget about learning any dialect. I told them for Teochew just end everything with "nee?". LoL

My Cantonese is also barely there. I only used to communicate thru speaking, no writing. Only with my parents and relatives. My mother's family side is particularly large, if I dont understand what they are saying I get laughed at. Not fun when learning Cantonese when I was at a young age.

Choosing my children's name was challenging but thank goodness for the Cantonese app. For Chinese there are only 4 "ying diao" but for Cantonese some words can have 5, 6, 7 ,8 and so on. You can imagine what I'm thinking when ppl married a Cantonese wife and wants to learn thru watching HK dramas so that they could speak to their in-laws and relatives. I just smile at them.

So if this girl can do Cantonese opera instead then I will be truely impressed.
