As the presidential election draws near, Madam Ho Ching, former CEO of Temasek Holdings and spouse of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, took to Facebook to share her thoughts on the role of an elected President.

In her post on Wednesday (14 Jun), Mdm Ho delineated the two primary roles of the elected presidency: “The primary role is that of a head of state, representing Singapore as a nation and state, and the symbol of unity for our people. The secondary role, for which the election is to be held, is to hold a second key to help safeguard our reserves and the integrity of our key institutions.”

“It is not to be an independent voice, a check on govt, or an ombudsman to all the woes and ills of society.” claims Mdm Ho.

 

Next time at work if I accidentally make a decision that create upset among others, I will tell my boss this line, ok?

remember after the KFC scare, they were so scared they made sure no election just award to current one.

assuming PAP is betting on a maybe 30-40% bao jiak vote bank for their man. There should be at least a third to vote split and gurantee a song song from Jurong risk free election.

Just dun be like that President wannabe who once joined Hyflux and iirc zhun zhun make it to reflect his "employment" there to squeeze in criteria. Met the min $500m thingy but not the number of years of employment tenure.

Hyflux disputed the "employment" and the rest is history. 

Can't remember his name off hand but hopefully, this is not a similar where the $500m is a criteria. Grey areas are problematic. 

Anyways, not for us to scrutinise the documentary proofs. He's confident his team of lawyers and accountants will make out the magic. Then again, did his taxes reflect such holdings or most are charities, got discount one.
