Driving a 2018 KIA Cerato. Speakers seemed spoilt (only 1 working) and need some advise.

I don't need anything fancy, just simple speakers will suffice.

1) Can I just change the speakers without changing the head unit?

2) Any shop recommendation? I stay in the West.

3) What's the typical price range for changing 4 speakers? Any bang for buck speaker model recommendation?

It could be due to corrosion or rust or simply the soldering on on the connection is worn causing it to be disconnected. Sometimes the connectors are wet due to heavy rain, rain water will enter your car doors. Just unplug them and spray some contact cleaner and they will be good again.

Yes, you can replace the speakers. You can use via the same connectors or just splice the wires, red to red and black to black.

Car speakers have a wide price range. It can be as cheap as $20/pc. Those with paper diaphragm will be cheap. Or you can spend on speakers. But I dont recommend it until you find out what is the cause.

Try to find a video on YouTube on how to remove your car's door trim. Remove the screws holding the door trim and unscrew the faulty speaker. Look for signs of corrosion. If you dont see any, follow the two wires and unplug it. Spray some contact cleaner on each end of the wire connectors and let it dry. Plug back in the speaker, start the engine and see whether it works. If it does, install everything back.

If the one of the wires are disconnected from the speaker just solder it back.

But most of the time faulty speaker is not working is mainly due to rain water in the connection.

Check the head unit first. See whether the "Balance" is in order. If it had been tuned to one side, the other side will be silent! Your speakers may not be spoilt. Just adjust the balance.

@Fitvip thanks! I just checked the balance. Totally no sound from some of the speakers...

Go to any audio shop, i am not sure $20 can get even a paper cone one but close to $100+ should  get you a pair including labour ? go ask around for a quote.

Quick qns, if my car has 2 small speakers at the front of the door (along with 2 big speakers at the bottom), should I go with coaxial or component?

Also, for a budget of $300, isit better to get 2 sets (front & back), or just get a better front only set?

2 small + 2 big sounds like a component set, so better to replace with component set like the one koba linked.  If the rears not spoilt can no need change, likely the rears are not component set also.

Took out the door panel ytd. Hoping the cause of the malfunction is due to corrosion or woofer torn. Surprisingly, the connection is very clean and the woofer cone is in tact. Wonder what is the cause of the malfunction.

Also, if I were to DIY, should I try to reuse the stock bracket and the foam shown in the above picture?

2018 till now. Already half life den spoil very good already. These factory speakers are super low in quality especially the Japanese and Koreans.

I suggest you go for component (since you mentioned you had tweeters on the top of your doors) set for your front doors and 2-way coaxial (those with built-in tweeter on the speakers for your rear doors.

Technically, you cannot use back the stock bracket unless you buy back the same brand same model (which is very hard or expensive to get) to plug and play. The stock speakers and plastic bracket are joined together during manufacturing. But there are audio shops out there who will cut out the stock speakers from the plastic and reuse them for new speakers. It's a no-no to me and any audiophile out there. Aftermarket speakers would require custom brackets to be installed on the doors to perform well enough. Audio shops will know what to do for you. A pair of coaxial speakers will already set you back a few hundred bucks. If you are not into audio and just want to replace your stock speakers, just get the lowest end/cheapest out there.

Cheers!

Driving same car as you. I have upgraded my front component speakers and change the rear stock speakers but after a while, it didn't feel any different. Then installed a sound processor. Only when u turn up the volume then can hear the difference. Otherwise, u can't really tell the difference.

I agree with Wormee. So if u are not into audio then just get a lowest end will do.

Cheers
