Seems that our road construction mindset is somewhat like in America, to quote a few sentences from the below article.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/janetheactuary/2016/07/why-are-americas-roads-so-much-worse-than-europes.html

"...Some key differences that the article noted:

Miles of smooth-riding, durable autobahns and auto routes put American roadways to shame. European highways actually carry more traffic and considerably heavier truck weights than U.S. roads, yet they are smoother and far sturdier. European highways are designed by their builders to last 40 years; the projected life of American roads is half as long.

Why has the world’s highway Goliath become the superpower of potholes? A major reason is that in its haste, America built on the cheap. Across the nation, state and local governments have tended to award competitive contracts to the lowest bidder, often meaning they got the shoddiest materials and the sloppiest work..."

"....American contracting procedures discourage the use of novel techniques. In Europe, governments dictate only how long a highway should last under what conditions, and contractors are left to their own devices to deal with the challenge. In the U.S., contractors must meet an avalanche of government specifications on materials and procedures but are not required to guarantee the road’s performance. “The Europeans create a contract climate that stimulates innovation; here we squash it..."

Over here, we have 2 challenges:

1. More rainfall in recent years;

2. Road design that is unable to disperse water quickly.

Both of these factors will reduce the lifespan of the road substantially.

Lastly, contractors never check the weather forecast before work is done.  Once rain comes, it will render the road work useless.

Your last point on checking weather forecast before, I think those contractors have a contractual time frame to complete the work, rain or shine, and I supposed some just bite the bullets and proceed with the work knowing that the results will be subpar rather than paying penalties.

March was generally wetter too so I reckon unrepaired potholes will get bigger and some new potholes will emerge.

Weather forecast in SG is highly inaccurate.. anytime can rain

Today I decided to try a new route coming back from tuas, took a longer Tuas south ave 3 towards tuas viaduct, BIG BIG mistake.

The bloody potholes on the road, esp the left 2 lanes really can form families. There is even a potlongkang in between lanes. -_-[laugh][laugh]

I find the whole Tuas area is like a maze, i never able to remember where is where. Remember donkey years ago i need to go dont know which part of Tuas to my vendor office once a while, i would need to see the street directory before i drive there, and yet still might get lost there. 😅

I think another 7 - 8 km south of that junction for port entrance.

Where to report potholes so that the repair can be dome quickly huh?

I usually contribute warning in Waze.
