Volvobrick Supersonic April 26, 2016 Share April 26, 2016 Hmm.. Simple maths says $8700 to study each subject, and 7M a year. Sounds very inefficient. Or government trying to feed more researchers. ↡ Advertisement
Blueray Hypersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 War on diabetes: Sugar tax a sweet ideaHowever, experience from Europe shows that ideally, such revenues would go to subsidising healthy food http://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/war-on-diabetes-sugar-tax-a-sweet-idea
Kangadrool Supersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 (edited) I disagree on sugar tax. It should come from education and by governmental regulation on food companies instead. The downside of sugar tax is, companies will use sugar substitute like artificial sugars which are more harmful than real sugar. If you have seen how some cough syrups are made.... nearly everything is sugar with small amount of codeine and some other chemicals. Just need to pour/spill some out and you will see sugar crystalization forming in hours time. Artificial sugars should be totally banned instead. Kb27 Supersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 (edited) Sugar tax is a sweet idea for diabetes. Salt tax is a salty idea for HPB. All tax is sweet. Keep taxing. Hell, nothing to do with health. It's just money, money, money. And don't forget carbo tax, tax all rice, cereals, potato. Carbo is bad for you. Edited May 5, 2016 by Kb27
Lala81 Hypersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 (edited) in fact i think the americans also have their own agenda of calling their so called corn syrup as sugar too they have big corporations behind the govt. pushing for it though i really don't know if there is really any difference between sugar cane sugar and corn sugar (syrup) Corn syrup is mainly fructose. Fructose is the sweetest of all the simple carbohydrates. Fructose is also the the main sugar in fruits. So it's actually "sweeter" as compared to the table sugar we are used to which is mostly sucrose. As of now, there is no conclusion about whether it's worse than taking normal table sugar. I think my mum gets a bit unwell when she takes it though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fructose There are speculations that excessive fructose consumption is a cause of insulin resistance, obesity,[9] elevated LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, leading to metabolic syndrome,[10][11][12] type 2 diabetes,[13] and cardiovascular disease[14] However, the UK's Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition in 2015 disputed the claims, demonstrating that "there is insufficient evidence to demonstrate that fructose intake... leads to adverse health outcomes independent of any effects related to its presence as a component of total and free sugars."[15] I disagree on sugar tax. There is no conclusive evidence that artificial sugars are bad for health. but of course consume with moderation. An interesting recent study conclusion is that if u consume artificial sugars very often to substitute for sugar in your diet, your body actually believes it's taking real sugar and the metabolic response is similar. But if u are taking the Coke light to prevent the calories from ingesting a Real Coca Cola once in a while, i would say go ahead. BanCoe Hypersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 Them americans will always come up with something new; I remember like 20-25 years back Saccrarin was the rage or in thing; then came Aspartame and then last few years Splenda....... so confusing...... again as I say they always have Agenda .... they will find some bottler endorsing them or some big corporate lobbyists to market it (politically) ..... and off it goes. Then 40-50 years later someone will find something to attack it saying something something will affect your heath and again a new kid will come to the block trending.... I just still take good old fashion sugar always. Corn syrup is mainly fructose. Fructose is the sweetest of all the simple carbohydrates. Fructose is also the the main sugar in fruits. And at that point of time, the farming lobby groups pushed for corn syrup as a healthy alternative to raw sugar. And since it was cheaper, it became widely used after that time. So you aren't wrong. Lala81 Hypersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 Thats the conclusive evidence right there One person only, inconclusive lol. It's only something i suspect. Cos she doesn't like to eat some sweet stuff outside like desserts which make her feel unwell. She doesn't like some drinks as well. But she's fine at home when she uses normal sugar. I thought she was diabetic, but she isn't. So my conclusion is she's probably sensitive to corn fructose syrup. You mom feels unwell after eating fruits as well too? Fructose in fruits is diluted by the water and also fibre also retards fructose absorption. My mum doesn't like to take sweet stuff actually so it's hard to say. but she always says anything too sweet makes her sick. Which doesn't make sense since she's not diabetic.

Even Palm Oil (becos they are Anti Malaysian - lets be frank about it) .... they convince the world to take corn oil with their marketing; Even Proton Saga cannot make it but QQ and some East Bloc countries cars can still can make it like- Yugo and Lada Any country not so friendly with them - them Yankees can make life really hard.

BanCoe Hypersonic May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 (edited) I think biggest buyers of sugar substitutes are women .. Really lah !.... My wifey and even sister will always use equal /Splenda .... I tell her I rather take tea neat ( without sugar) and eat ice cream with real sugar at night some more ... N no Diet Coke for me ... Just the real thing .... Then go wash car after that ... I feel justice done,.,. Provided you don't have diabetes Edited May 5, 2016 by BanCoe

Mercury1 Turbocharged May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 Maybe its down too how our body deals with it Metabolic DifferencesWhile the sweeteners themselves are not very different, the individual sugars they contain behave differently in your body Glucose raises blood sugar, stimulates the release of insulin and is metabolized in cells throughout your body. Fructose doesn’t directly boost blood sugar because it’s only metabolized in your liver, where it’s converted into fat. As a result, it can boost your blood lipid levels -- consuming more than 100 grams of fructose daily may increase the levels of triglyceride in your bloodstream, according to an article in the April 2011 issue of “Circulation.” Since cane sugar and high-fructose corn syrup have about the same proportion of glucose and fructose, the American Heart Association does not acknowledge one as more damaging to your health than the other. http://www.livestrong.com/article/173669-cane-sugar-vs-high-fructose-corn-syrup/ One person only, inconclusive lol.
