If the drinks companies reduce the amount of sugar they use

they will save billions of dollars right?

Quick buy shares in drinks companies.

The reason I distrust the controlled mass media r the half truths they propagate to push their intentions across to the clueless public..

The dietician liow min Choo is either poorly schooled or has her motives in her comments passed.. the fruit juices contains sugar, but is much more beneficial than white sugar due to the other numerous nutrients in the fruit vs the sodas.. see here for alternative views (http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/sugar-in-fruit-vs-table-sugar)

We shouldn't just listen to some biased "experts" spouting focussed n self interested views, but read up broadly to educate ourselves for our own benefit.. in Sg, it's always u die is ur own biz...

The fruit juice debate is there, some believe juicing removes most of the nutrients, especially the fibre. And what's left behind is the concentrated cup of several serving fruits fructose.  To be a safe side, don't know which side is right,  just stick to eating whole fruits to ensure you have the nutrients and fibre, so no wasted calories from the fructose.

Turbocharged

Alamak, just had chee cheong fun (leftover from fridge) for bf.

If I don't eat that, I got nothing left to eat.

Will that mean low blood sugar if I fast ? [:p]

but I wonder why soon-kueh and stir-fried beehoon is considered low GI ?

They are also made of the same rice, no diff from chee cheong fun.

Might be the oil coating the bee hoon or soon kueh. It takes a longer time then for the carbs to be digested since it needs to get through the oil later first. But the (likely unhealthy type of) oil poses another health issue.

my uncle told me he read an article on the newspaper some time back ... model wanted to loose weight and size ... only took fruits everyday ... after a few months,  diagnosed with diabetes because of the natural sugar in fruits.

Err no. She's right. It's been shown Fruit juice is not good for you.

If you want to drink it vs coke. Sure, it's PROBABLY more healthy. But it's still unhealthy at the end of the day.

A fruit sugar is all fructose. Without Fibre to balance it off its not good for you.

She's not incorrect in her statement, but it's not the whole truth..she's cherry picking the facts to prove her point, but ignores other impt facts abt the benefits of the fruit juices, apart from the sugar content.. that's what I object abt her statement.

Yup, eating whole fruits is better than the juice alone, n that's what my colorectal surgeon tells me too.. good to aid in the digestive n pass motion process..

Fruit juice is the worst way to eat a fruit, as you lose all the fibre.

But the marketing guys would like you to think that slow juicer is better for you. [laugh]

They even sell it at premium price to make it look "valuable"

a masticating juicer is better. There's some hype but there's also science behind it. It does extract more juice especially from vegetables.

Good advice.

I will only stick to masticating from now on.

I will do for science and good health.

If doctors say masticating is good for you

just do it.  [thumbsup]

Well, usually the "statement" is just one or two punchlines edited from a longer response. This is very common in all news media, especially the article is targeted at the layman.

I also avoid drinking juice-only, before all these new attention around diabetes. Our body needs all kinds of nutrition that complements each other, extracting anything standalone is never good.

Yes, you're right..whole fruits is better than juice.

Then the news editor is cherry picking or edit for the sake of editing n losing the whole message? Haha, oh well, sg mass media what can we expect from them..

Thanks to all bros for your responses.. have a good fruit today!

Think Alot of people in the more wealth off country tend to eat more than necessary. How many stop eating when you are not hungry anymore? Most end up stopping only when you are full. The first method is likely to encoirage eating more small meals at different time which is technically better than pushing one full load at a time.
