TameDriver Twincharged April 14, 2016 Share April 14, 2016 (edited) Fat has an important component in satiety. I grew up drinking HL. In the past, i used to be able to drink 70 -80% of one carton by myself. Don't feel anything. Now I now drink farmhouse milk, 1 glass is enough unless I'm really hungry or thirsty. Sugar/carbohydrates is demonised. There's another BBC episode about two twins who each went on different diets. One is no carbohydrates for 1mth, one is high sugar/carbohydrates with no fat for 1 mth. Can't remember if it was a Horizon episode. I watched the BBC episode presented by 2 male Drs (identical twins). One went on Low carb High Protein diet & the other, on High Carb diet for a week. The High Carb twin performed better in Cycling sprints & mentally challenging tasks. Conclusion: carbs still essential & crucial when one needs the energy for mentally challenging tasks & taxing physical activities. Trouble is, the general public tend to misunderstand the full implications & started to bemoan or follow blindly the findings of health studies. It's Low carb high protein/fat vs high carbo diet. The twin with low carb high fat also started having abnormal glucose levels. Not saying that high carbo diet is good. Just reinforcing that things aren't as simple as A = bad, B = good.

Ah...u watched the same episode. Thanks for helping to clarify; I got the duration wrong. The gist of it: Do not just stick to 1 kind of diet; eat according to our health & lifestyle requirements.

Where does the glucose comes from, if he ate low carb diet? The liver produces it?
Lala81 Hypersonic April 14, 2016 Share April 14, 2016 Where does the glucose comes from, if he ate low carb diet? The liver produces it? you get your glucose from ketosis if you stay on the diet long enough. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketosis Lol, thought there's a few paelo diet guys in MCF. Should be right up their alley. But maybe they have cheat days.

I didn't think they are the same, or shows up abnormal glucose level? Many things to learn. I was one of the guys over at the low carb thread here in MCF. But not very hardcore as some of them.. I still wanted to enjoy my food, but reduce the portion significantly.

The basal glucose in a low carb diet will come from Gluconeogenesis I think. Most from amino acids. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluconeogenesis
BanCoe Hypersonic April 14, 2016 Share April 14, 2016 Wow! we got rocket fuel scientists in our MCF's I just eat like there is no tomorrow .... eh sorry eat to live?? or rather live to eat?? which ever way you look at it At night I still have my Ice creams or Cadbury Chocolates without fail almost everyday (real ice creams lah!! not the Tiko type!!) and Nuts, lots of Nuts (not the ones that produce milk again!!!)

Lala81 Hypersonic April 15, 2016 Share April 15, 2016 (edited) I recall my bio lessons mentioned ketones is bad for the body. Does that view still hold? Ketosis is a natural process of the body to provide for energy when blood glucose is insufficient. Hence having ketones is sorta like using a poor grade of fuel to run your TC engine. Ketosis is very energy inefficient, it takes like 2 ATP to get like 4 or something like that. Where as glucose is like RON100 Excessive ketones is definitely dangerous for the body. Your body goes into ketoacidosis. Usually this condition is found in diabetics who decompensate for some reason. Now with people doing paelo diets, i think it's not easy to say whether a deliberate long term nutritional ketosis is good or bad for the body in the long run. Good tip! @mercury1 actually a fasting glucose at the doctor every 1-2 years should suffice. No need Bo tai Bo ji prick yourself. ↡ Advertisement
