A harbour pilot from PSA Marine (PSAM) died after falling overboard while disembarking from a tugboat to board a PSAM launch boat in waters off Singapore's Southern Islands.

The pilot's body was recovered after nearly 9 hours

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a statement that its Marine Safety Control Centre was alerted to the incident at about 2:50am on Saturday (Feb. 11).

The pilot was wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident, MPA added.

MPA, Police Coast Guard (PCG) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) immediately deployed patrol and emergency response craft to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.

MPA also activated divers to conduct an underwater search for the missing pilot and issued navigational safety broadcasts to the surrounding vessels to support the search efforts.

At about 11:30am on the same day, the body of the pilot was recovered and conveyed to PCG Brani Base.

Investigations are ongoing, said MPA.

The pilot fell overboard while disembarking from a tugboat to board a launch boat off the Southern Islands, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), adding that he was wearing a lifejacket at the time.

The authority's marine safety control centre was alerted to the incident at about 2.50am.

If it is tugboat to launch boat the deck should be at the same level which is easy to hop across. No climbing of the marine type of boat ladder. I have climb those at night before, the hook at one end isnt very secure.

Maybe he slipped and hit his face on the boat's edge and became unconscious. Sometimes the waves can get pretty rough due to tide change.

According to the tide table on 11Feb the high tide was at around 2:39am, the authorities were alerted at about 2:50am. The tide water coming in might have affected his judgement.

Even when cmi Jo Teo was a MOM minister also not so many workplace fatalities le. So this TSL quite unlucky? Like some transport minister would oversee more train breakdown than some other transport minister.

To be fair, the ministers didn't cause fatalities lah. It is the volume of projects, shortage of skill workers, low standard in enforcement, etc.

If we still allow 8 person sitting behind a pickup track or 18 person behind a lorry, but car needs seat belt, you know we have not reached the desired standard.

Enforcement is part of MOM job right?

We want to live like 1st world but pay 3rd world money.

How to achieve that without "If we still allow 8 person sitting behind a pickup track or 18 person behind a lorry,"?

but if good things happen even when they do nothing, they will be first to claim they cause it
