Ok lah, since so much objections, next year promote her to some minster position. 3rd minister of environment can?

If she is to be promoted, she would have been promoted.

From Business China CEO, TPL became unemployed.

On the other hand, Sun Xueling gave up Business China CEO, she became parliamentary secretary of MHA and MND.

As a backbencher, she has limited influence on Govt policy.

Terence see her 2 up.

In terms of conflict of interest, quite a stretch.

In terms of perceived conflict of interest, maybe ppl see MP 2 up.

The only issue is TPL head PAP select committee on Tech.
This is a fact not many ppl knows about.

PAP has to remove her from that committee.

Most people, including me, won't know if conflicts, real or perceived, will arise.

But between her role as MP (which allows her access to non public commercial and regulatory information, not to mention government officials) and that of head of government relations at Grab (which is not paying her for nothing), surely conflicts will arise at times.  Information alone is power and there may be pressure from bosses to leverage on her network to advance business interest.  Nothing wrong lah as it is just business.

G should perhaps explain what safeguards have been or will be put in place to help TPL manages the 2 roles or we should just leave it to her conscience as and when such conflicts (real or perceived) arise?

PAP prides itself on being whiter than white, it is good to clarify and not try to whitewash this issue, like it did on the Keppel corruption scandal.

Having said that, I think at least TPL and Grab are transparent. Many挂羊头卖狗肉type of corporate appointments, especially in US.

Being MP does not give them the authority or right to ask for information.

Unless this MP is on Select Committees of Parliament.

This person can ask for information as a member of Select Committees of Parliament.

A lot of ppl don't understand our political system.

That is on paper only. And didn't you say she is on some technology committee?

She also knows people and that is what Grab is buying. Not saying she will reveal information but she has much to juggle.  In US, if you are a lobbyist, you can't be in G, at least on paper.

I will be surprised if new legislations presented at parliament for voting are not discussed/ disseminated at all before hands. And she will excuse herself from voting, sharing her views on certain bills affecting her industry?

Like i said, good to explain safeguards in place or will be put in place.

She is on PAP select Committee.  PAP has to remove her from PAP internal committee.

In terms of new legislation, once it is disseminated, it will be public knowledge.

During drafting stage, MP does not have any authority to be involved.

The worry is not about her 1 vote.

Rather, she can unduly influence any new legislation that will benefit her employer.

What you said about US should have some legislation banning due role.

That should be put into legislation banning OUR MP from taking certain roles.

Now question is what qualification she got to do corporate development lol

Business China is big MNC meh?? According to website it is a nonprofit lol

Business China is about networking.

In Business, network matters more than qualification.

PAP said in its statement: "It then became clear to the Party that she would be expected to engage regularly with Government ministries and agencies on public policy issues on behalf of Grab."

"While she would make it clear that she was engaging in her private capacity and not as a PAP MP, there could still be challenges in carrying out these responsibilities, especially under the current circumstances."

Obviously will have conflict of interest what…duh…
