Should be SCDF.

SCDF should have a portable water pump in this situation.

The rino itself should already have a pump built in?

Looks like the firemen were unable to lift up the manhole cover to turn on the fire hydrant?  lack of routine check or never check at all? i am just speculating, I could be wrong.

Thought yearly inspection of the fire hydrants should be conducted and water pressure 38 ~ 42 bars  😲

Someone not working....

then the land alone will bevery expensive, surprisingly not many are rebuilt, i guess land asking price is too high around that area. Bad incident but time to rebuild and sell for huge profit or good to stay on  too.

Many are sitting on houses passed down many generations, no urgent need for cash. Once 1 starts to sell and the price shoot, the rest will follow. no easy to make decision to throw $1M to rebuild a 'sore thumb' unless you see potential.

Home better put fire extinguisher

Put those big ones

@Mustank

Agree. Should have standby 1 to 2 fire extinguisher and put out when the fire is still small.

There is also those auto fire extinguisher wall mount type, will operate when detect high heat.........and it's not expensive to install

The cameraman  only know how to complain and criticize .............the major blame shld be the house that started the fire

Most importantly, no casualty, no life lost. Time to design and rebuild these old landed house. Not a bad thing

Those within a compound have to be serviced once a year by certified contractors. SCDF will conduct surprise check, though I do not know the frequency.

I am not sure about hydrants in public area.

Some of them are asset rich but cash poor.

Unless the occupants have lucrative businesses running, to rebuild is a headache to them.

Hope they have good fire insurance

A simple reno would cost about $300k onwards, but not sure if it is worth doing it, rebuild will be at least 1.5m, but that would allow him to max out the plot ratio, which may be a more viable option . The land would worth avout 3m or more by today's pricing

A full fledged fire engine would have a  high flow rate water pump of more than 1000 gpm at higher than 100psi, the typical fire hydrant supply would  not provide that kind of pressure

For public fire hydrant, water supply direct from PUB pipeline and it is SCDF responsibility to check and ensure that pressure and flow rate meet basic fire fighting requirement (with provision for peak and of peak hours). SCDF should contact PUB directly if any of the parameters is not met.

For internal hydrant, it is the landlord responsibility to check and ensure that it meet the flow rate and pressure requirement. If parameters not met, landlord have to check and ensure no leakage in pipeline before engaging PUB to check the supply pressure and flow rate.

If incoming supply is insufficient, use booster pump also not much use. BTW, it is common that the metal cover get stuck as they were not only exposed to weathering condition but also soil / dust / road debris, etc.

Basic fire insurance would only cover structure and rebuilding cost, need to have comprehensive insurance to cover the contents, fixtures,  reno and valuables

Basic covers building and content.

What’s important is sum insured.

Building covers structure and rebuilding cost as well as reno.

Totally how many units burnt out or affected  …… maybe might as well do an enbloc and built apts if the plot suffices it and move on as it’s very hard to maintain going forward
