Beregond Supersonic January 10, 2023 Share January 10, 2023 Houses evacuated after fire breaks out at East Coast Road SINGAPORE: About 20 residents along East Coast Road were evacuated after a fire broke out at a terrace house late on Monday (Jan 9). The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at No 12S East Coast Road at around 11.50pm, adding that the fire was "well alight" and had affected four terrace house units when SCDF arrived. “SCDF firefighters immediately set up water jets to surround and contain the fire to the four units,” said SCDF in a Facebook post. “A Combined Platform Ladder was also deployed to conduct aerial firefighting and prevent the further spread of the fire." At the height of the operation, a total of six water jets were deployed, said SCDF. SCDF said the fire was extinguished at about 1.50am on Tuesday, with damping down operations still ongoing at about 2.40am. Damping down refers to the application of water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after a fire is put out to prevent any potential rekindling from the hot burnt surfaces. A fire . No big deal. Normally i wont want to start a new thread on this. But i saw this video. I not saying there is a problem? or equipment failure ? But I hope got some proper explanation. If the timing and operation is normal, i hope justice can be given back to those fireman. ↡ Advertisement 2 3

Explain is one thing, what would the preventive and improvement measures to avoid another occurrence would be important. Looks like the firemen were unable to lift up the manhole cover to turn on the fire hydrant? lack of routine check or never check at all? i am just speculating, I could be wrong. serenade 6th Gear January 10, 2023 Share January 10, 2023 These are 1960s Katong terrace houses. I used to live in one. When I did a major renovation ten years after moving in, I found that there is no firewall between houses at the roof level. Meaning that the ceilings of the row of houses is one long row. Fire spreads very easily, and someone can break in the whole row from the joined ceilings of the second storeys. This is the reason why the fire spreaded so easily in the video. In my case, I very quickly put up a proper brick wall and sealed the roof gap with my neighbour completely. So that any fire from the next door houses will not cross over to my house. 10

Confusedboi Supercharged January 10, 2023 Share January 10, 2023 Don’t think it’s firefighters fault that the hydrant not working properly and cannot pump enough water pressure.. Which govt agency is responsible for checking on hydrants, is it town council or is it solely SCDF? Water pressure problem maybe need to ask PUB?

Bad incident but time to rebuild and sell for huge profit or good to stay on too. Edited January 10, 2023 by Ct3833

In the past i did see scdf going around to inspect hydrant and even carrying out test to ensure water discharge but these days i dont see that anymore, maybe they use technology to monitor pressure and other key indicators of the water supply system. ↡ Advertisement
