She did this when she was cutting weight for her upcoming fight.
looking at her physique, shes always going to find it hard to cut weight cos she was taller and broader than her opponent.

Cutting weight is brutal when it comes to combat sports. It takes few weeks to 1 month+.
You dehydrate and starve your body to the extreme while still doing workout to maintain muscle mass. And victory/defeat is only by a few hundred grams only.

Many of them (also bodybuilders) go through very wild mood swings during the above.
If u read what they go through, even tough men who are no strangers to pain/extreme workouts suffer mental breakdowns. They don't reveal it until after they are retired usually. Like grown men cant stop crying type...

Of course as a professional, you wants to be at your best and win. In any sports, winning is not everything. Once they have tasted losses, then acceptance of loss becomes part of the sport.

Lee Cheong Wei and Lin Dan didn't win all their matches. They are still champion and legends in their own way.

It's qualification based on your weight. So if u don't even meet the weight, u cant even fight and show your skills/training. And their fights are multi months projects. U can't take part in like 5 tournaments back to back in a season. You need several weeks to 1-2 months to recover from 1 major fight.

And obviously in a physical fight, u need as much mass as possible to absorb blows, increase your punching and physical strength.
So maybe a girl is normally 50kg. So in 1 month, u lose 5kg and just scrape into the weight class to fight. If u fight in the 46-55kg category, your max size is only 50kg. U will get outpounded by a 55kg girl.

It's very flawed system, but since it is quite unfair to have 55kg girls fighting 45kg ones, they just have to live with it.
MMA/boxing all very unhealthy system in general.

I'm more interested in knowing how/what their parents think about their children life as professional martial art artist, considering they themselves r martial artists too, given both their daughters tried to kill themselves at such young age with 1 succeeding?

Yeah I am aware. It is not just a missed opportunity but also a source of missed income. What I am trying to say is, it doesn't mean one should give up a life for that. Either you try to maintain or move to the next level if y want to stay in this sport.

Knowing the limit is important

Don't know. They are distant cousins to my BIL. Met them once at my sister's housewarming.

Pro sports especially combat sports are not for everyone.

They know what's happening. Combat sports have weight classifications. In order to gain an advantage over their competition they go thru rapid weight lost or RWL to fit their target weight classification. I dunno what weight lost regime they go thru but it must be affecting them psychologically and gave them mood swings.

For any regular folks they can get angry when they are hungry or what ppl called "hangry". For them to go thru RWL that must be quite tough. Even for ppl going thru IF they know they can get mood swings or feel like they are on a short fuse.

Not eating or not eating well on top of daily combat training will break a person. It is not as glamourous as ppl see it.
