Probably he slipped and fell down the 4m staircase while moving around the smoked logged room. So his death may not be related the fire (say inhalation of smoke, overcome by heat, fatigue, exhaustion and such). It is still a mishap regardless of the root cause of his death. RIP.

While the firefighting operation was ongoing, another team of firefighters entering the engine room to support the operation found the rota commander lying at the bottom of a staircase.

4m is quite high up. At night and visibility obscured by smoke, such accident unfortunately happen.

The account of how Edward Go was basically abandoned when the firefighters next to him couldn't stand the conditions anymore, was terrible to read.

But at least, there is closure, but I hope Kamil doesn't sleep well at night.

It's very bizarre. Maybe he was an eager beaver and did not question his senior. The only question I have is that why they never rotate up more firefighters as replacements before allowing those present to leave ? It was only at the 4th storey and not some skyscraper. Also, why did it take so long to set up the second hose? It was requested right from the early stage of the incident.

Reading the account, the moment the second hose was available, the fire was finally extinguished. If it was brought into action earlier, whole episode could've concluded much earlier.

Think it wasn’t so easy.  The other teams might not have arrived or may be fighting another fire or searching for victims etc etc

It’s not like SAF training situations where enemy only come from one direction, “tiger force” on standby ready to respond etc etc and worse case just repeat the exercise.

But the WO should either have stayed or withdrawn the team and not left him there alone
