Aiyo why so complicated. Either you hang or you put him in prison for life. Again for life mean forever. If it is just for 20 years, then say so. I find it confusing 😁

Mr Branson is entitled to his opinions," the ministry said, adding, “These opinions may be widely held in the UK, but we do not accept that Mr Branson or others in the West are entitled to impose their values on other societies. Nor do we believe that a country that prosecuted two wars in China in the 19th century to force the Chinese to accept opium imports has any moral right to lecture Asians on drugs."

there's a significant difference between "death penalty" and "mandatory death penalty". Guess which one ties the hands of the judges?

Exactly. Even murder now don't have mandatory death penalty. Each case should be assessed based on their individual circumstances and sentenced proportionately.

In SG life means rest of your natural life. But after 20 years they will assess if you are suitable for release, but no guarantee of release (as I understand it is very rare and unheard of to be released from life sentence here).

I am looking forward to more open live telecast debate whenever MIW rolls out new initiatives. MIW should invite affected users like us, public and opposition for debate. Why open for foreigner only? Cos he is Dua Kee? 🥲🥲🥲🥲

So we lock a person up for life, feed him and let him rot. Not sure this is doing any good for him or the country. Very difficult decision too. 😆

Of course. More of an interrogative session rather than a debate.

Age is taken into consideration too. Younger offenders (generally below 30) they try not to give life imprisonment unless really no choice.

"The judge found that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Shen had the drugs in his possession for the purposes of trafficking.

On Thursday, giving his decision on the sentence, Justice Gill said Shen did not qualify for life imprisonment, which is available to drug couriers who meet specific requirements.

The judge found that Shen was not a mere courier; neither was he certified by the prosecution to have substantively assisted the Central Narcotics Bureau in disrupting drug trafficking, nor suffering from a mental disorder or intellectual disability that impaired his responsibility for his acts."

Sad a 31 years old throw away his life this way. More public education especially in schools to show how serious is drug and how serious the government will take actions against them too.

No one share this interview yet?

So our system has moved away from punishing the addicts to making them stepping out and seek help themselves.

Hmmmm...probably only a minority want to come clean.....
