Renewed COE last week. No LTA inspection required.

Hi, I assume your renewed COE date is before your original COE expiry date? If so, can I check what are the new motor insurance and road tax anniversary dates after COE renewal? I.e. do they follow the renewed COE date (hence the earlier balance of insurance and road tax periods are forfeited)?  Thanks.

@Bigtoothpick I just checked my insurance and r/tax, they don't follow the renewed COE dates hence no losing out.

Yes, mine also follows the original registration date.

looks not many people scraping and recycling back into the COE quota.  prolonging the feast&famine cycle.

from onemotoring (COE renewals)

PQP month Total Cat A-D

2022 - 16,522

2023 - 16,624

2024 (Jan-Jun) - 13,065

The increase in % might look high but the absolute number tells otherwise, this is especially so comparing with the peak between 2016 to 2019 when PQP prices were lower.  For example, in 2019 alone, there were about 41,000 COEs(CAT A and CAT B only)  being revalidated, whereas from Jan to Jun this year, on 4.5k COEs were renewed, assuming linear trend, full year will be 9k, that is about 21% of 2019 level.  Of course COE quota is a lot lower now. But lets see when 2017 onwards when more COEs are due for scrap, whether 1. will COE price drop, 2. to what level, 3. what will be the revalidatoin level.

I haven't driven a jag diesel before but I suspect you probably do have a DPF. Almost impossible to meet emissions these days without a DPF. Especially if you don't need adblue for SCR.

Probably if trips are not short distances, your DPF will not clog up with soot. But modern conti diesels nowadays can also do forced regen by injecting diesel into the DPF to burn off soot, eliminating the pesky DPF issues from short trips.

But even then, the DPF will eventually clog up with ash that is reduced from soot, necessitating a replacement. It is inevitable, a matter of time. I seem to remember that my previous BMW can use the workshop OBD scantools to read off the % of DPF ash capacity utilised.

Mine is also without Adblue...but i take it for spin up north once or twice a month to burn out the soot and regen .. so far so good, touch wood.

Tough to get a diesel cars now....wanna keep mine as long as possible....the torque is additive, especially on S mode....always put a smile on my face when I floored it..

Not bad, when i recently took it up north after a change of tyres and servicing....still could hit 200km/h.......thou just for a short time.

1.5 years still have lots of time, sit tight and wait for COE to drop, should come down slightly by then. And you have 156 chances to win a first price Toto till then.

My car also left 1.5 yrs. But I believe the real COE drop will only begin end of 2026.

Early  I will need to start looking for replacement car.

My 10 year CoE expires Dec 2025.
my mileage is less than 50k.
Car Audi Q3, first owner, No accident. To me it seems sensible to just renew CoE for 10 years, instead of scrapping and spending a huge packet on buying a new car. Thoughts anyone??

Its still a long way for renewal , so stay on the side lines, but looking at your mileage and if you are happy with the drive ..... just renew it ... also saves the Earth too .... just start becoming alert in around Sept 2025 (next year ) and see whats the trend like too

It is why i said "come down slightly ", 2017 and 2018 would probably have better luck to have lower COE , provided with a lot of provided...🤣

For sure will drop when quota is much much more than now. Only question is drop by half or less than.

If only clock 50k mileage over a period of 9 years , more likely can do without the car. there are people who buy and park most of the time at home, only use it once a while🤣
